Don't worry.
Poll after poll shows that the Republicans are on the wrong side of this issue. The pro-lifers might be louder than the pro-choicers, but they're fewer in number because the Republicans have spun this into a biblical debate.
I have no idea why Republicans think an election year push on women's health/rights is a winning tactic. For all the talk about keeping the government out of healthcare, they sure do seem keen on getting the government all up in vaginas from coast to coast because of a passing verse in the Bible.
Because it does not matter what the American people think or what they tell pollsters..
Actually, it does matter what the American people think.
So...it does matter what people think? They have voted...about almost a dozen times since Roe vs. Wade for a President who doesn't make this a core issue BECAUSE ITS FUCKING STUPID. Of course, Republicans pay their voters lip service about abortion, and their voters reelect them...even though they've never done anything about it. So...keep playing that game well-informed-Republican. How's all that working out for you?
And if the polls (and thus the public) are on your side, then why support Roe V. Wade? If the American public is on the side of abortion rights, then why not let it be decided at the local and state levels as it used to be? If the American public is truly in favor of abortion rights, then it won't matter what the Supreme Court says.
I support Roe vs. Wade because Jeremiah 1:5 is not the law and the United States of America is a nation of laws, not religious beliefs. If you want to go to a nation built on relgious beliefs then there are a few in Southwest Asia that you might be interested in.
And we can't just stop following Roe vs. Wade. The Supreme Court ruled on it almost 40 years ago. Congress can't do anything to overturn it as it would be ruled
unconstitutional. The President can't do anything to overturn it as he wouldn't have the power, and if he did it would be
unconstitutional. The states are already doing everything they can do within their power to do what they can to overturn it within their own jurisdictions but they can only do so much because anything greater would be
unconstitutional.
Look up the seperation of powers. Your party is the one who's been jerking off over the sanctity of the Constitution ever since Obama was sworn in. You'd think you'd know something about the thing.
When that time comes, technology will have overtaken and superceded any debate about "rights". People whether it be 100 or 200 years from now will look back on those in our time and be shocked at the idea that anyone would condone abortion. Just as we looked back schocked that anyone could condone enslaving another human being.
Oh, they'll be shocked...but mainly because people like you were given a voice. Every single thing you believe in will be dead and buried in 50-100 years.
Man up and accept it. Or read a book. Either way you'll be better for it.
