Why was Kes written off the show?

I'd rate all of the original BSG as worse than Fury. It was just unwatchable and goddam, I really tried to like it. But that was made in a different era.

Fury didn't bore or irritate me, so I'm ok with it. It scores bonus points for featuring Kes and time travel. Yeah, it was a different Kes in Fury, but she was still entertaining. She didn't have this perfect idealized life after she left Voyager (whatever that would be for a ball of light), which sets this situation apart from all the fairytale happy endings in Trek. The quantity of them gets on my nerves. Plus, Fury lets us fanwank some sort of resolution for the planet Ocampa.

You might argue that this seriously impacted on the quality of the actresses that some of them couldn't even read, oh, and it was sexist amoral and horrid, but...

It was still better than 80's hair. But I always had a soft spot for Farrah which I associate the feathered look with (though I was of course a Kate Jackson fangirl first and foremost).

"the worst episode in the history of TV?" wow. It's a pretty bad one, and a slap in the face to Kes and Lien I agree, but it's not even the worst episode of VOY, much less all of television.

Honestly, I've seen lots and lots of crap on TV in recent years but nothing worse than "Fury".

OK, "Threshold" was bad but it was at least funny in some places. "Fury" was only insulting to the fans, especially the Kes fans.

If "Fury" be Hell, you haven't even scratched Purgatory. There are far worse. The only things that come to mind offhand are a Jack Benny episode where he plays the violin off-key for an awkwardly long time. Like nails on a chalkboard and for minutes at a time. Then there's Route 66, a series I love, but it has one really horrible episode, "Is It True There are Poxies at the Bottom of Landfair Lake?" which has a monologue longer than the title. A boring guest star who's an a-hole tells a story, a really boring story. This goes on for 14-15 minutes! No interruption, no back and forth, just him telling this stupid story, and he's completely unlikeable. The most we see are the camera cutting to Tod & Linc or the guest stars and their eyes glazing over as he goes on and on and on and on.... This series had some long soliloquys, but I don't think any other clocked over 5 minutes and some of those were actually good. Not this one. Whenever that scene is on, it's like time stops, but he just can't shut up. No, it can get far worse from "Fury".

Having seen both of these made me realize early television experimented with some things you just don't see done on tv anymore, like very shrill chalkboard-esque sounds, especially for longer than 2 or 3 seconds or monologues almost as long as whole episodes way back (I'm referring to 15 minute soap operas).

I must admit that even if I try, I can't find the scenes you're describing as worse than "Fury". The scenes you describe are incredibly stupid but "Fury" was stupid, destructive and insulting.

Funny that you mentione original BSG. I've recently watched some episodes on a channel I have and I think that this original series is much better than the depressive stuff they came up with in recent years.

And no, I don't find "Kes" entertaining in "Fury", only pathetic. I prefer happy endings before the curent doom and gloom scenarios we have to stand in too many series these days and I see no resolution for Ocampa in a pathetic wreck. I think that Ocampa would make it just fine anyway.

TATV is the worst episode in all of Star Trek.

I don't see any point in comparing bad episodes of Trek with other tv, unless it's a similar sci fi and era show such as Bab5 or Stargate.

Lost in Space, virtually any episode was worse than Fury. The, there's LiS's 'The Great Vegetable Rebellion' which may be the worst episode in Sci-Fi TV history, certainly in the top ten.

Jeri didn't sleep with anyone to get her job or sleep with anyone to keep her job, or sleep with anyone to take over the show and receive twice as much "meaningful" screentime as anyone else... it just kind of organically happened since Brannon probably couldn't separate his love for the woman and his love for the character... Which really aks the question if he loved Jeri mmore than he should of becuase of his love for Seven?

Ocampa was fully dependent upon the caretaker and afraid to live above ground because of rabble like the Kazon. It didn't look like they were making any progress. Whatever state she was in, Kes had knowledge and experience that would benefit Ocampa.

It didn't rain on Ocampa.

The biosphere is broken.

That world cannot support life.

Any one that lives on Ocampa has to use the same technology as a starbase.

It's weird that Ocampa has air.

No flora, or fauna to recycle and constitute.

Two thoughts.

1. The Kazon make air "somehow" so that they can work on the surface of Ocampa.

2. Caretaker was "beaming" air to Ocampa.

think about this.

The Ocampa were even more doomed than before.

Running out of water is nothing compared to the planet running out of air.

We've all seen Spaceballs.

I'm thinking Ocampa has a thin atmosphere with very, very little rain. But, yeah, they're all kinds of screwed.

Maybe Kes can use her powers to fix the ecosystem somehow. I can see this older angry Kes slaughtering all the Kazon and moving her people to their home planet.
