Once Upon a Time (ABC) - 1x02 till the bitter end

^That must have been awkward for Henry at school. "why am I the only one advancing in grade and getting taller?"

They (OUAT's PTB's) actually talk about that.

How many little kids see everyone as stagnant age wise until they age a little themselves. It was Mary Margaret giving Henry that book in her class that really opened his eyes as he recognized people within its pages AND that THEY hadn't aged while he had.

:wtf:

Of course, ever since Emma came to town... EVERYone has started to move forward in time.

Strange that REGINA hasn't figured that out yet!

Smart kid, if you think about it.

:bolian:

Are you kidding? Children are the most astute when it comes to noticing people aging. Surely you remember the politics of age from grade school? 3rd graders never associated with 1st grade "babies". By 3rd grade Henry should have been going a little warped seeing himself the only one that changes. By now, in what looks like his 4th or 5th year of school he must think he is nuts or that everyone else is. No wonder he clings to that book.

Why would Regina need to figure anything out? She made the curse. She knows what's going on.

If people really cared, they'd be at that sports arena to pull the fire alarm.

Fuck the fanbase, this is shit that the producers should organize.

Every sporting event that dares to compete with there programming should get a fire alarm, a bomb threat or some equally disarming issue that castrates any rivalry in the womb.

Well, the tv fans managed to delay the Daytona 500 by 2 days and cause a huge explosion. That last part sort of backfired though.

The discovery that Gold was working somehow with Regina is not exactly exciting. But since it was obvious that there was something more complicated going on than Regina offing the wifey to fram Mary Margaret, it is a relief to see they aren't lapsing into nonsense. (Yet.)

This was the best single episode precisely because in many respects it was a standalone. We got the Mad Hatter's story and it had more impact because it was resolved at the dramatic pitch. In addition to the shout out dialogue from the writers about the fantasy/magic versus reality themes, there was the contrasting way that returning to Wonderland was an unhappy ending. The dialogue where the Hatter was trying to persuade Emma probably came across as a little stiff, because TV and movies have very, very little rational conversation amongst characters. Stan had to do many rapid mood shifts. This was by far the best guest performance in this series. Would it be premature to think guest actor Emmy nomination?

The only thing good about last night's episode was Sebastian Stan, his performance and the way those leather pants fit his body:drool: The rest of it wasn't that interesting. Emma is coming off like Scully in the fact she has seen enough to suggest what Henry and Jefferson(nice nod to Jefferson Airplane who was behind the trippy Alice in Wonderland tune "White Rabbit") are saying might be true yet remains intransgient.

The trip to Wonderland wasn't nearly as wondrous as it should have been. The vault where Regina removed her father's heart looks suspiciously like her vault and the one in Storybrooke masoleum.

I don't know. In Emma's defense, we know that she's a character on a fantasy tv series where anything can happen, but from her point of view, being a realistic 21st century grown-up, it's pretty much impossible to believe.

I mean, suppose somebody told you that you were actually the long-lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, that your best friend (who appears to be the same age as you) is actually your mother, that Lewis Carroll's "Wonderland" is real, that the local shrink is actually a talking cricket (!), and the mayor is an evil fairy-tale witch who keeps people's hearts locked away in a secret vault . . . .

That's not like believing in a government conspiracy, Bigfoot, or even UFOs, that's pure crazy talk!

What has she seen?

She's seen nothing.

Her kid needs riddlin and Jefferson probably has bugs to go with that telescope.

There is no magic, so she's seen no magic.

Exactly. In real life, a rational person would need more than a couple of "huh?" moments and odd coincidences to start believing that their neighbors are really Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood and Jiminy Cricket, etc.

"Well, you see, Sheriff, it's quite simple. The guy who used to edit the local newspaper? He's actually a magic mirror who used to be a genie, who was in love with the wicked queen from 'Snow White.' And you were actually transported here as a baby by a magic cabinet.'"

"Of course, it all make sense now!"

Terrific episode, seeing Bucky as a Guest Star was an awesome surprise, the Mad Hatter was played extremely well, IMHO. A little slip here and there, but, it's a very complex role, with lots of shifting around of moods at the drop of a hat, plus it was his first outing in the character, and I think the performance holds up very well, and if he continues to guest star in the role, it can only get smoother.

Emma is starting to crack down her walls, I wouldn't want to see her accept it "whole-Hog" all at once, as long as we continue seeing baby steps, I'm fine with it (An episode or two back, Emma started coming to Henry to get answers from the book, so, she's definitely advancing in her belief, because once again, she is turning to the book)

Interesting that Mr. Gold made a deal to work with Regina. I'm a little confused with how Jefferson fits in, Regina seemed to expect both and Emma and MaryMargaret to not be there, is that because she expected MaryMargaret to escape and Emma to chase after her, or did she know Jefferson had them (And even set it up)? Jefferson seemed to genuinely be working on his own, and in fact, although for selfish reasons, is trying to help Emma. So, was his kidnap of Emma and MaryMargaret just a happy coincidence for Regina (that didn't work out?) or was Jefferson working with her on the sly?

A big deal has been made by Regina that Snow "took something" from her. Complaining about the Queen of Hearts, taking her father from her, was said in the same manner as when she complains about Snow taking something from her. The Queen of Hearts face was hidden from us. Is it possible Snow spent some time as the Queen of Hearts when she was in hateful mode. Or does the Queen of Hearts look like Snow (IE: Each world has the same faces, but, in different roles?). I didn't catch on while watching (Why I don't know :alienblush: ) but, it just occurred to me the Queen of Hearts, collects hearts. Just like Regina, do all the evil queens/witches partake in this hobby?

Will Jefferson/Mad Hatter return this season? Answer

Ratings down a tic, but still in safe territory.

ABC's Once Upon A Time was down to a series low 2.8 adults 18-49 rating, vs. a 2.9 rating last week.

And wasn't it competing with some big basketball thingie last night?

Given the audience composition, I'd be more inclined to blame The Hunger Games. But even so, it was an extremely minor drop.

If people really cared, they'd be at that sports arena to pull the fire alarm.

Let's put Guy in charge of show publicity. I've heard of guerrilla marketing, but this is ridiculous! :rommie:

Well, this is interesting. The last time we see Mad Hatter, he is in Wonderland, not Fairy Tale land, and in the Real World he remembers the other worlds (so much for just "one" remembering). So was he in Wonderland when the curse took effect and he was brought here anyway, and is that why he remembers? And where is he now? They seemed to imply that he went back through the hat when he hit the ground.

If he went into the hat, that should give him access to any world - Fairy Tale, Wonderland, Real World, and any of the others. Once you're in the hat and leave it, you can return to the door that leads back into the hat, as long as somebody else doesn't know about it and go through first, stealing your place and trapping you forever unless you can figure out how to make a hat within the world where you are trapped, which is very hard to do without Emma around, although I guess Jefferson must have made the first hat in Fairy Tale land - maybe he can only do it there, or he's lost the touch?

So, Jefferson is sitting pretty with access to everyplace right now. As long as he keeps his mouth shut about how he got to whichever world he's in now. Emma will probably confiscate the hat and keep it locked up somewhere.

not any world.

i'm assuming that each of those mirrors in "the between place" are all the, and the only different worlds which he has access to.

Which had me wonder if the different worlds which he has access to are just different chapters in the same book?

Our main Fairytale world is mostly Grimm's right?

Now we've seen Lewis Carol's Wonderland, can Narnia or Morte D'Arthuir be far behind? ;)

Our main Fairytale world is mostly Grimm's right?

Not really. We've already seen King Midas (from Greek mythology) and an Arabian genie and Geppetto and Jiminy Cricket from Collodi's "Pinochio" and apparently we've got Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid coming up soon.

So they seem to be casting a pretty wide net where "storybook" characters are concerned . . . as long as they're public domain.

How much did those 12 seconds with Darth Vader in An Indian in the Cupboard cost?

I literally thought every week while watching Muppet babies that another Star Destroyer was going to unleash on the Nursery.

Public Domain.

Yup.
