21 Jump Street - It's actually awesome.

The thing is, he's been absolutely godawful in everything else I've seen him in. Even being merely passable in this would have been an achievement.
Yeah, I've concluded that that's what I didn't "get" about this movie's popularity... The Channing Tatum factor. I've never had an opinion about him one way or another, so he had nothing to redeem. To me, he was just Jonah Hill's costar.

I'm still leaving this movie in the category of films that I would have to be strapped into the chair from A Clockwork Orange, before I watched it.

I was not going to go in fear of another Starsky & Hutch. However the wife has a standing request to see all Tatum movies. This time I got lucky.

The Cinema Snob's take on the movie.

He makes a point about old TV shows being given comedic movie adaptations. Makes me wonder what shows we watch and enjoy now, or have in the recent past, will get comedic adaptations in film down the road?

What would a comedic NYPD Blue movie be like?

He's a bit annoying, yeah, but I enjoy his video reviews. Him and some of his friends did reviews of the midnight screenings of pretty much every movie this past Summer and it was very entertaining.

Just got back from this one. Very entertaining, and Tatum was a big surprise. Loved all the fun cameos, too.

Just saw it yesterday. Love it. So did the wife. WAY funnier than I thought it would be.

That guy is as annoying as FUCK. I wanted to punch him. I don't think I have ever heard someone sound SOOO dripping with condescension. I don't think I would want to spend anytime with him, let alone listen to him give a "review." OY. Couldn't finish it.

Just got back from seeing it, very funny and I highly enjoyed it. I have no preconceived notions on Tatum but I really liked him in this movie, Jonah Hill was really good, movie was very funny and since I've never seen the TV series I had no notions on what to "want" from this movie adaptation.

Very good, thumbs up and I'd grade it an A-.

I didn't recognize him either but just figured he was another alumnus from the show. I think killing them may not have been the best course for the reasons outlines by TCS, but -again- I've never seen the show so couldn't care less.

I liked how they'd start an action scene and it was edited action-movie style and then quickly cut to "reality" style with the tension ramped down. This obviously most evident during the car chase scene and the tanker truck(s) but it also happened during the bike-chase scene in the beginning where it's first edited and scored like a fast-paced chase between a guy on a bike and a fleeing suspect. Then we cut to "reality" and how such a chase would really look.

Honestly, I also suspected a lot more hilarity when it came to the two trying to operate the driver's ed car as they both fought over the controls/direction of the car.

Just back from a date night viewing with the wife. Funny as hell. First laugh out loud movie I've been to in sometime.

I don't have any history with the show, and enjoyed the cameos.

Killing them was HILARIOUS. And surprising. And created a very touching moment.

I have no idea what TCS "outlined" but he strikes me as someone who likes to tell everyone how they should do something, plenty of opinions, but doesn't actually make things. Which is fine, but, not when you come off as a condescending prick.

I sorta loathe the internet movie critic. I can't think of one I can stand more than 30 seconds of...

Well, he didn't like killing them off since he saw it as an "insult" to fans fo the show (assuming the movie is "in canon.")

He does, in fact makes things of his own the videos/reviews on his site being one and he is currently working on an independent movie with friends.

He did end up saying he mostly liked the movie and recommend it he just didn't think it was fitting for it to be a 21 Jumpstreet movie (again, he was speaking as a "fan" of the original show.)

Killing the original characters I think, as TCS said, was sort of a middle finger to fans of the show and I simply saw it as done more for shock value than any thing else. It also didn't make sense that Johnny Depp was able to breathe and talk after being shot through the neck!

People get shot in the DICK. It's a comedy. If anyone is insulted they are taking this movie WAY to seriously. Again, people get shot IN THE DICK.

THAT'S more "insulting" to the series than anything.

But, it's pretty fucking funny.

AH. So, the really annoying videos. Got it. Point retracted.
He's still annoying.

Seriously? He's a "fan" of the show. There are fans of the show? I know it had an audience, but, seriously, are there FANS? Are they called Jumpers? 21ers?

Killing the original characters I think, as TCS said, was sort of a middle finger to fans of the show and I simply saw it as done more for shock value than any thing else.

A middle finger? Really? I'm glad I stopped watching him. This was a comedy. A comedy that DEPP himself was in. Soooo, is he saying Depp is giving the middle finger to the show?

It's not a middle finger. At least with those with a perspective.

It's a great moment. Shocking. Funny. And then... a good moment for one of the other characters.

It also didn't make sense that Johnny Depp was able to breathe and talk after being shot through the neck!

PEOPLE GET SHOT IN THE DICK. IN THE DICK. Why are you looking for THAT much of sense?

SERIOUSLY. In. The. Dick.

I liked it better than the eleven-minutes-longer Hot Fuzz, which, while amusing, eventually just got kind of depressing. This movie's action finale dragged a bit, but it kept me smiling 'til the end. B+

I admit, Nick Offerman kind of is the reason I will go and see it. This guy just cracks me up. And so far everyone who'd seen it, said it was great. So worth a try.
