Is Dave Bailey still waiting to get picked up ?

Delta Vega

Jesus, after all these years sitting talking to that Balok dude.

Thinks ........I wonder if Kirk really has forgotten about me, I`m getting bored with all this tranya or whatever its called

Why would he want to get picked up? He had all that tranya and the Fesaurius at his command. So long Kirk. He probaly got tired of selling tranya and became a rogue in his later years terrorizing more than a few planets, (er, to test their true intentions).
If he was Balok's love slave so much the better as he was probably gay, complainaing all the time as he was a stick in the mud.

I figure Bailey probably went into business on Regulus or in the Orion colonies, dealing in green animal-women and slaves. And tranya.

Are you kidding? If the 2009 movie is any indication, he finished a brief tour on the Fesarius, reported back for duty and was named a starship captain in nothin' flat!

I thought Bailey's time on the Fesarius was supposed to be for a set amount of time and then he'd be returned to the Federation? Kirk mentioned something about "And I'll get back a better officer".

Yeah, but Kirk had a habit of dropping people off and forgetting about them . . .

Kirk: "And I'll get a better officer in return."
Balok: "Ah ha haaaa, hahahaha! I see. We think much alike captain, you and I."

Bailey probably recorded all he could, learned a ton about the "First Federation" (which I still think was a fake title, just to intimidate the Enterprise crew), then reported back to the Federation with an indefinite assignment to serve as a liason... The Enterprise went on its business and that was that. ;)

When Clint Howard did his Balok bit for the William Shatner roast. I didn't see Bailey anywhere. Considering how big Balok had gotten, maybe he ate Bailey.
And why was that bit not on the version of the roast on Netflix? It seemed to have been edited.

About the "better officer" comment, I pictured Kirk getting a "better officer as a replacement." Then Balok laughs in that sinister way, so we know that "Tranya is people!"

Becoming a deliriously sadistic sore winner, Bailey made his way with the Fesarius to the Star Wars universe to cause trouble by introducing the Borg to the Jedi.

Sorry to go off-topic, but I've always wondered about Anthony D. Call, who played Bailey. I had never seen him in anything else, but this thread prompted me to check out his resume on IMDB. He guested on a lot of series in the 1960s, then seemed to settle into soaps until 1993, when his listings stop. Maybe he retired then.

And when he played Balok, seven-year-old Clint wore a bald skullcap. Now he doesn’t need one!

Totally non-canon, but the graphic novel Debt of Honor had Bailey briefly reunited with Kirk aboard the Enterprise-A. He was still in Starfleet, but apparently serving as a liaison between the UFP and the First Federation.

Never in a million years would I connect him with Bailey. Are we sure it's the right photo? I mean, age is age, but this guy looks completely different.

Anyway this reminds me of a time when I did a quick audio gag with the sound from the episode carefully edited. It went like this…

Balok: "You must drink! This is tranya…one of your men."
Kirk: "Mr. Bailey..?"
Balok: "Hahahahaha…"
Kirk: "Mr. BAILEY!!!"
Balok: "Haaah-HA HAAAAA-HA-HAAAAAAA!"
