YAWN

His mom had nice hair.

HA!

RAOTFLMAO!

the poll is shit.

If there is a possible score out of 10 you can give Wes, 1 being you hate him, 5 being you generally like him and 10 you want to have his babies, we've been forbidden to use scores 6 through ten qualifying how much we like him. it's unnaturally dividing the hate of Wesley into a striated spectrum vs a single block of love.

Divided we hate, united we love, so of course love is going to win in this poll if it's not divided.

I give him a three, which I think is pretty close to meh. A bit more negative than my vote for "I am indifferent towards him" but I fall on the negative side of indifferent. He's not an ewok. There's nothing cute going on.

On a scale of 1-10 I'd give him a 7. I liked his character, and a lot of the episodes he had prominent roles in were great. Then again, my age (17) may be biasing me because I'm about the same age he was on the show. It's possible that my opinion of him will completely change in a few years.

Guys, the fact remains that, as of right now, only 32.5% of the respondents either "generally dislike" or "hate" him. The absence of an "I love him" option is irrelevant. All it would've done is break down "generally like" into two categories.

Yes, I can see your point, but "I Like Him" is not the same as "'I Generally Like him."

My whole point is, that the poll would be more accurate with the extra option. Example, I generally like refried beans, I'll eat them and be okay with them. I like Borracho beans, and will take them over refried anytime. To me "I generally like" is not much different than indifference. (Push comes to shove, I am indifferent to refried beans.)

The fact that more than half of the poll respondents here claim to "generally like" Wesley epitomizes what is wrong with so many viewers' understanding of drama. In actual fact, Wesley was a horrible character, horribly acted, who single-handedly hurt every episode in which he played a significant role.

He is a horrible character because his persona makes no sense and is artistically wrong. You have enough weird characters on the ship, and it is weird enough to have a teenager on board a starship already. To compound that initial weirdness by saying that this teenager also just happens to be super-bright is too strained. It ruins the suspension of disbelief. Anyway, you already had Data who was super-bright, and Geordi and Picard are both seriously amazing: having Wesley in there is overdoing it.

His character's lines and actions do not make sense because the writers cannot seem to pin down his age level. Sometimes he is written like a small child, sometimes like a mature teenager. It is bad writing (don't try and rationalize it by saying people are inconsistent - this is bad writing).

Finally, the acting is ludicrous. "Acting"?

You know, reading this board, which is supposed to be a TNG message board, I start to understand why TV is in such a pathetic state now. That so many people even here can tolerate Wesley just proves the ignorance and sloppy thinking that has seeped into popular culture. If you do not detest Wesley, you just do not understand how dramas are supposed to be constructed and how science fiction plots are supposed to be constructed so as to be challenging but plausible. So why are you watching TNG at all, a generally good show? There are plenty of more recent TV shows that cater to those with bad taste - go watch them.

I agree. How can a teenager be super-bright when teenagers are all idiots? My suspension of disbelief was just thrown out the airlock at warp 7 while watching this.

Interesting, I thought the majority would hate Wesley.

the poll is shit.

Why, thank you, good Sir for your elaborate opinion. Perhaps if you would bother to propose a new poll, I'd be interested to listen to it.

The poll doesn't say they like him either. It's set up like a poll with five options, but leaves out the fifth. As I pointed out out "generally like" does not mean "like." Those who generally like Wesley may not have cared when he was written off the show. Those who like Wesley would have.

Also if:
There's no distinction worth harping over.
between "Like" and "Generally Like" Why is there a "Generally dislike" and "hate"? The poll goes all over the place and is inaccurate.

A more accurate poll using the options listed would need to add a few more options would be:

I love him.
I like him.
I generally like him.
I am indifferent towards him.
I generally dislike him.
I dislike him.
I hate him.

In the current poll those who "generally like him" are lumped in with those who "like him" and those who "love/really like him." In other words, the poll is biased into saying people "generally like" Wesley.
