I Hate The Klingon Race

I've become as bored with the Klingons in STAR TREK as I've become of the Daleks in DOCTOR WHO. Enough already.

I'm in the camp that they should have had more Romulan episodes than Klingon ones. I've become bored with people complaining about Klingons, and would find people complaining about Romulans more fascinating.

Any explanation why are TOS klingons more machiavellian and less honorable than the TNG-DS9 ones?

I've read somewhere that the writers confused the Romulan honor thing with the Klingons, and switched the two races. The Romulans became the schemers, and the Klingons became the "honorable" warriors.
When were the Romulans ever "honorable"? In their first appearance they use a sneak attack to test a highly destructive weapon on an "Earth Outpost" in direct violation of a treaty they were signatories to.

The TOS era Klingons were the smooth headed ones that had human/augment DNA in them so they were different than the bumpy headed ones. Somehow the TOS versions came to power just before the TOS era and then fell out of power prior to the TNG era. The Smoothies were quite as honorable as their bumpy headed brethern.

WAH WAH WAH!!!

{enter fart sound here}

That is all you people sound like. On every thread. On every forum. Nothing positive to say at all about anything: just one continual bitch and rant session. You people are miserable.

Jeesh

What do you mean "you people"?

I didn't like what TNG and DS9 did with the Klingons. They basically became drinken, honour-obsessed fools with identikit perms and fake armour. Their rituals were nonsensical. Their ships were dumpy rustbuckets (even the "new" Klingon flagship seen in DS9!)

That said, I liked the TOS Klingons, and ENT went to lengths to show Klingons who weren't the TNG/DS9 stereotype (Archer's lawyer, the doctor who had Phlox kidnapped). And JJ's deleted-scene Klingons seemed fearsome and smart, in what little we saw of them. I also loved the alternate versions of the Klingons presented in the old novels "The Final Reflection" and "Pawns and Symbols". I also liked the Klingon backstory introduced in "Ishmael", where we learn the primitive Klingons were enslaved by the Karsid Empire in ancient times, and when the Karsids vanished 600 years ago, the Klingons inherited all their technology (hence them seeming to stupid to build an empire for themselves, and why their ships are so old and worn out)

So.... there's potential for them going forward.

Is there any alternative to the Klingons? What would get more viewers: the well-established Klingons or Generic Villain Race #8 who we have never seen before and will never see again?

There plenty of alternatives:
Tholians, hirogen, Vadwaur, Devore, Undine, Changelings, Vorta, Vardies, Nausicaans, Brikar, San-Tarah, Gorn, Orion, Breen, Vorsoth, Xindia and Kazon.
the well-established Klingons or Generic Villain Race #8 who we have never seen before and will never see again?

Gneric nero had done fine, so i dont see why not.

Nero was Romulan.

The Kazons?! Even in their worse episode the Klingons were a thousand times more compelling than the idiotic Kazons! The Nausicaans are, if anything, worse than the Klingons. They can barely string two words together. Don't even get me started on the Xindi. You could have replaced them with the Romulans and it wouldn't have changed a damn thing. As for the Undine, I was tired of them after their second episode. The Devore were as bland as toilet paper. We got our taste of the Vorta, Changelings, and Cardassians in DS9. The Hirogen are a shallow copy of the Klingons, just replace the word "honor" with "hunt". In addition, use any of these races too much and you'll have someone popping up complaining about how they use Race X too often.

Well how about if we take a race within the Federation and you turn them into Federation enemies or at least conflict sources? They leave the Federation, their political system is in chaos and renegade groups frequently hold the balance of power.

I suggest the Andorians. They are good at machinations and fantastic to look at. They are also far from the Nausican/Klingon animal element.

Not by much, they are still has bellicose and honor-bound as the Klingons. No matter how you slice it, the Klingons make for such good antagonists because they are almost the exact opposite of the Federation and humanity. They say the brightest lights have the darkest shadows, the UFP is the light and the Klingon Empire is the shadow. The Klingons show up more often because they simply work as antagonists.

People are probably already complaining that Klingons show up too much.

An alternative what, exactly? Recurring adversarial species? Why is one needed at all?

No. The Xindi were an interesting, multifaceted, multispecies cooperative. The Romulans are cardboard villains with identikit idiotic bowl cuts and embarrassing shoulder pads.
