Damn. I had money on the car.
What were the odds? According to race caller George Simon he'd never seen the like of it before.
Neither had the racing fans watching, not to mention the poor horses or drivers.
Race two at today's Franklin Harness meeting at Pukekohe Park got off to what appeared to be a decent enough start, with only one horse breaking as the mobile car pulled away. King Wally, an appropriate name, as it turned out, led the field away.
However, at the end of the straight Simon was left searching for an explanation as the car skidded 180 degrees and nearly flipped before settling to face the oncoming field with the gates still out.
Simon summed it up quickly: "Whooaaaa, we've got an issue here," as the drivers tried to pull their horses wide of the still extended gates.
Damn. I had money on the car.
