Why do they still let Braga do TV shows?

What do Enterprise, Threshold, Flash Forward and Terra Nova have in common? :)

So far, the only Brannon Braga produced science fiction TV show that didn't get canceled is Voyager. And IIRC, Voyager's ratings weren't exactly stellar either.

Now, who in their right mind would entrust a multi-million dollar TV project (like Terra Nova) to a guy with that kind of a track record?

Fans of 24 are lucky Braga didn't get on board earlier on.

He's a killer, in the best sense of the word, I guess. I think he would flourish on a show that he believes in and cares about but there's no saying what that actually is.
He is an atheist after all it seems.

He needs to do more non-scifi IMO. Manny Coto (right after Enterprise) did 4 seasons of 24 (Yes, I know, Braga did help in the 8th season and had some good contributions) and Manny is now in his second season of Dexter by contrast. While I often pick on Braga for his womanizing problems on set, he can write, he needs to broaden his horizons a bit though.

Braga was only onboard for Flash Forward's first episode, then he left. Threshold was actually pretty good, and got screwed by the network more than anything else.

Terra Nova, I never watched it.

Braga screwed over his long time partner during his Star Trek years.
I think he succumbed to the Peter Principle and rose to his level of incompetence.
He was much better off as a struggling writer-it was during that time that he wrote his best stuff. Success went to his head.

I think he's stuck in space where he belongs like a giant nebulous anomaly. He just needs something valuable to sink his teeth into and lay the foundation for. He's wet cement and a crane. RDM is a plywood stud with a wrench. He needs a good sci-fi skyscrapper to build is all.

Actually, I think most execs and writers would give their eye-teeth to have the level of success Braga's had on tv. Quite a lot never see their babies pass the pilot stage, if they even get there.

The same type of people who kept giving Rockne O'Bannon work until Farscape panned out. It's the pitch. There's always another chance for even the worst creators...despite what their detractors think.

Braga was co-executive producer during season seven of 24, and was promoted to full executive producer during season eight. Half as many years as Coto, and not during the show's glory years, but it's a stretch to call his role on the series "help."

Well, to be fair, sci fi is hard to make work on broadcast. I'm not sure Braga is the root of all evil. I mean, he didn't cancel Firefly...or did he?

Dexter has taken a nose dive of late. Maybe Manny should stick to sci fi. :wtf:

No, smart people who understood that a show like that had no future did.

Professionals who understand what's actually involved in producing and writing for TV.

Bet you think there are fans posting on the Internet who'd do better?

Well, I guess there's no reason I'd be interested in what you think science fiction on TV should be like.

Next.

Speaking as someone who sees Akiraprise as a stepping stone to the 2009 abomination, Braga is not bad per se, it's just damn stupid to put him in charge.

As for the initial question, worse things have happened. A quick look at IMDB shows that Uwe Boll is still making movies as well.

Speaking as someone who sees Akiraprise as a stepping stone to the 2009 abomination...

If that were true it would be another reason to like both Braga and Enterprise itself. :techman:
DS9 started the path of dumbing Trek down for the lowest common denominator,
Akiraprise graduated to Vampire Space Nazis, saving the planet from a "space bomb" in the last second and the space battles of the week.
After that, dumbing it down even more to cater to the average NASCAR fan was the inevitable next step.

DS9 started the path of Dumbing down Trek? In what way?

And what is Akiraprise?
