Prometheus: Ridley Scott returns to Sci-Fi

The AVP movies aren't really considered canon to the serious Alien or Predator movies.
It's a little more complicated than that.

Fox considers AVP a separate franchise from Alien and Predator. They are seen and treated as three distinct franchises, despite the overlap between them.

Ridley Scott revealed another connection between Alien and Prometheus:
As reported by AVP Galaxy, Scott told IC Press that Guy Pearce will be playing Yutani, owner of the Prometheus.
"The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce," Scott said, via translation from the Hungarian news site. "That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."

AVP was bearable, AVPII is one of the only reasonably budgetted sci-fi movies I have turned off half way through. It was just two guys in rubber suits wrestling each other, and in the dark so you couldn't see it was just two guys in rubber suits wrestling each other.

I always thought that AvP should not have had humans or dialogue in it at all. Predators invading the alien homeworld and getting more than they bargained for, that could have been an ace movie.

Without a human or a more anthropomorphic protagonist to identify with, I doubt that most punters would pay to see a near 2-hour CGI slasher movie. An entrée spectacle of beast versus beast action might have worked in the Roman amphitheatre, but even they preferred their fights to include human participants.

.

The film was dark in the theater. On television, the film is unwatchable.

I'm torn between it being not that bad and it doing exactly what they should never have done: reducing two once well-regarded franchises into an "aliens attack small town America" b-movie.

Well the twitchy replicants for one. The evil mega conglomerate mentality that the heros have to break free from, etc.

The greedy corperations want time travel and Ripley was a replicant with an alien agenda, controlled by Prometheus.

There's really no dilemma there. It was terrible, in every conceivable way :p

Connecting it to the Blade Runner Franchise universe would elevate it beyond AVP.

You mean like Soldier? Might want to rethink that.

Would have been a bit better if they set it some time After Aliens/Alien3 like the game. Setting it on Earth present day really ruined it that and they tried to make it a teenager-aimed slasher film instead of keeping with the tone of Alien or Predator

There's an overarching plan to link all of them. It will be glorious.

except AvP obviously

And check out the video of Guy Pearce as his character from the film: http://blog.ted.com/TED2023

Nice, although that one seems more fitting to a Blade Runner prequel than an Alien one.

The line about cybernetic beings becoming nearly indistinguishable with humans was very "Blade Runner"

Why can't they make Blade Runner and Alien take place in the same universe. Two different creators and properties?

Well some people like to think Ridley Scott's Blade Runner and Alien are are connected.

It would be fun to see Ripley and Newt get together with Deckard (Harrison Ford's character in Blade Runner) and try to stop the war between the greedy evil corperations' programmed replicants and the god like creators of the xenomorphic aliens (weapons).

Unless I'm mistaken, one of those people just so happens to be Ridley Scott.
Indeed, if you just take that at face value (and perhaps ignore the Alien sequels) it fits perfectly.

Agreed this smart viral in universe stuff they are doing seems to have just as many references to Blade Runner whilst keeping still most of the details about Prometheus in the dark.

Anticipation.

I'll be as orgasmic as the look on this kid's face if there really is replicant/android/synthetic connections indeed!

Nothing to concretely tie them together, nothing to prevent it either.
