To hell with advance doubters and what's being said. I think this looks like it could be fun.

The second half of that clip is a better trailer for the film than any of the trailers we've seen thus far, even though it's mainly footage we've seen.

I understand, but I wouldn't worry too much about scientific accuracy. Having just finished reading A Princess Of Mars I can say that ERB does indeed have John Carter performing what are essentially superhuman feats and the film is following that. I will say the white apes seem larger to me than the impression I got in the book while the Tharkians seem a bit smaller.

If I can suspend disbelief for a good superhero film then I can easily do the same for John Carter as long as it's enjoyable.

But the title just sounds entirely bland and generic, which is why it doesn't surprise me that most people who aren't hardcore sci-fi/movie geeks like me don't bother to pay any attention to the film.

My apologies. I misread what you initially wrote. The film does appeal to me but I agree the title is rather bland, John Carter of Mars would have been the better choice.

Yeah, I can understand not wanting to name it "A Princess of Mars", because being Disney alot of people's minds would probably go twoards the Disney Princess when they hear that. But getting rid of the "of Mars" part of the title was just stupid. And I still don't understand why they haven't used the history of the story in the marketing, to me that would seem like a huge selling point.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow director Kerry Conran planned to follow that movie with A Princess of Mars, and he put together a demo reel for Paramount.

That demo reel has surfaced.

There's a lot of concept art for Conran's vision of Barsoom, and it's fabulous. So too are the CGI renders of the Tharks, particularly the scene depicting Carter, with one sword, battling a Thark, with four swords.

I'm weeping for the movie we didn't get.

i think i'm one of the few people who actually liked Sky Captain. i was eagerly awaiting Conran's version of Barsoom. and yes, the Tharks in that demo do look better than what we're getting in John Carter.

I liked Sky Captain, except for the casting. This version of APOM looks like it would have been great.

There is a separate 'trailer industry'? It's not just a branch of a studios existing marketing/PR division? They outsource trailers?

Yep. It fluctuates every few years (studios decide to bring everything in house so they don't have to pay so much money to outside contractors; a few years later they realize the cost of overhead and decide to outsource again; rinse and repeat), but at the moment there are tons of outside "trailer houses" that do this sort of thing.

They even have an Awards ceremony now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Trailer_Awards).

Yesterday, I was thrilled to be able to attend a press screening of John Carter

I'm not allowed to review the movie yet, but I think I won't get into too much trouble if I say that John Carter is my new favourite Andrew Stanton movie. (and I quite like his other movies)

They are clearly getting desperate. The marketing has been a disaster, so they are putting out more trailers in the hope that it will do some good.

I'm really looking forward to see this film - but the marketing campaign has just been so bad. It's quite sad.

true, but I still thiniking the movie is going to kick some serious ass. the only bad thing is that we are still two weeks away from the release. I really hope they do
the first five books as movies which is awesome reading material.

I would actually say that is the best trailer yet. But maybe that's just because I know where all the bits and pieces belong now. The edited dialogue sounds strange, though. In the movie, it's "Tharks did not cause this. But Tharks will end this!" (I understand why they changed it, of course)

They really really really should've called this John Carter of Mars... If you didn't know anything (which is 99% of the audience) the trailer doesn't really give you an idea of WHERE this takes place... Did they say mars? I didn't catch it in the trailer.

It IS the first word spoken in the movie. And the film ends with a title card that says "John Carter of Mars". But I don't think I've heard it in any of the trailers

I am looking forward to this... and put me down as another big Sky Captain fan. Could it have used better [or any] chemistry between the stars? Of course. But it was geek paradise. From the time his plane dove underwater I had a happy grin pasted to my face the rest of the way.
