hi ho Silver, The Lone Ranger rides on....

A quarter of a billion dollars for a Lone Ranger movie is ridiculous. Especially if we don't get supernatural coyotes.

Gore Verbinski talks (rather vaguely) about TLR:

CS: I was kind of surprised when I learned you were doing "The Lone Ranger" because you'd think you got doing a Western out of your system with this, but I guess it just made you want to do another Western really soon. Was that your thinking when you took that or did you just like the character?
Verbinski:
Yeah, those things were set in motion a long time ago. I'd worked on that script for about 18 months with Justin Haythe. So it's different. It's a Western, but it's a completely different narrative and I just feel like I've got my hands on the stirring wheel, finally, in terms of having a story that I really... I think you have to be able to answer the question, "Why must you tell this story?" Otherwise, you're going to be halfway through a movie and want to slit your wrists.

That's not gonna stop the Hollywood remake machine! Johnny Depp seems determined to remake every TV show in existence. He's got Dark Shadows and maybe The Night Stalker underway too.

Coming soon: Johnny Depp is the titular alien in ALF, Johnny Depp is Al Bundy in Married With Children, Johnny Depp is Ponch in CHiPS, Johnny Depp is The Six Million Dollar Man, Johnny Depp is Jack Bauer in 24 The Movie, Johnny Depp is Norm in Cheers.

I knew you would love this casting news. You are such a Prison Break fangirl. :rommie:

I better be, that's my bf's most favoritest show ever. He won't stop yakking about it even now, and unlike me, he actually believes it was excellent for the whole run and not just the first season.

Prison Break alums are on a roll! Robert Knepper has been cast as...wait for it...a cult leader/serial killer! Well there's a stretch. ;) And it's on the CW, this I gotta see. (Since T-Bag is my bf's favorite character, now he has to watch a show aimed at 14 year old girls, ha!)

I like all your suggestions, Captaindemotion, but here's the one that must happen: Johnny Depp as Weyoun in DS9: The Movie! :p

Actually, in a few years, he might make a decent Kolchak. I just hope they keep it in the 70s.

Actually, that guy who plays Shane on Walking Dead would make a great Starsky-- he could play opposite him.

A Lone Ranger Movie??? It's been like 50 years since that show ended.
But only about 30 years since the last movie.

Sssh! We're all trying to forget that movie.

And then, of course, there was that teen version that aired on the CW a few years ago. The one where the Lone Ranger ended up in an Old West hot tub with Tonto's hot sister.

(I swear to God, I'm not making that up!)

It was a pilot for a "Young Lone Ranger" series starring one of the guys from SUPERNATURAL as the Ranger (before he was cast in SUPERNATURAL, natch). As far as I know, it aired once on the CW and did not go to series.

And, to be fair, the hot tub scene was a dream sequence, but Tonto still had a hot Native American sister . . . .
