By now, most folks have heard that an old TOS-era script written by Mr. Norman Spinrad has been rediscovered after 45 years. (The "He Walked Among Us" script is available online from Amazon and Barnes and Noble; don't confuse the script with Mr. Spinrad's novel of the same name.)

Plans are still very early, but Star Trek Phase II has been in discussion with Mr. Spinrad, and it looks like we will be shooting "He Walked Among Us" later this fall. Mr. Spinrad has indicated his willingness and eagerness to direct the episode himself, so we've penciled him in.

More details as we know more.

    Great news!

On a side-note, where is Kitumba in the pipeline?

The script wasn't lost, but I'm glad that one of the many fans who had a copy finally brought it to Spinrad's attention so he can make a few bucks off of it. I would have given him my copy if I'd known that he didn't have one.

Can't wait to see what becomes of this.

Congratulations. I look forward to it. On a related note -- at one time I heard you folks were going to do George Clayton Johnson's "Rock-a-Bye Baby, or Die!" Whatever became of that?

    Thanks.

RABBOD is still technically "in the pipeline". The co-writer Mr. Johnson chose got notes to adapt his adaptation to Phase 2. We're waiting on the new version of the script.

Yeah, I saw it on dealers' tables at a New York Creation Con in January 1984, and it was often listed with other bootleg ST scripts in the various SF media mail order firm catalogs of the day.

I was short of cash that day - so am thrilled to have downloaded my first e-script to my iPhone.

I am still not convinced the version offered at cons is Spinrad's original script. It has "first draft" and the correct date "July 25, 1967" on it, BUT it also has Gene Coon's name on it as a co-writer. So, I'd like to see one of these copies to compare it to the original. Coon may have just not changed the date after he edited it.

Or someone cobbled up a front cover. (As with "Stars of Sargasso", which has DC Fontana's credit on it, but people have told me that cover was created by a fan to make it match other bootlegs being sold.) I don't recall people who owned that old convention bootleg Spinrad script saying it was comedic.

^ I don't remember it being comedic, but I haven't read it in a while.

I haven't downloaded the one Spinrad is now selling, but the script I have is identical to the preview that is available on Amazon... other than Coon's name being on one and not the other.

The original script was not comedic, the revised script, which was re-written by Gene Coon was. If the script was comedic, it was Coon's version.

Exactly, I don't recall that old convention bootleg Spinrad script being comedic.

This is the best legitimate thing since TAS featuring TOS characters. An actual script shot with live action.
It's one thing when an old Trek TOS writer does a story for a comic book like D.C. Fontana did with YEAR FOUR : Enterprise Experiment but another when a real script's dialog will be done as live action.
    very cool

Well, this is a reminder that D.C. Fontana and David Gerrold have both already written Star Trek New Voyages/Phase II episodes. So Mr. Spinrad isn't really the first actual TOS writer for us.

Well, since the one Mr. Spinrad is offerring was scanned from one a fan bought, it most definitely WAS the one being offered for sale at conventions.

On the request and on behalf of Mr. Spinrad, we are offering the PRINTED version of this script for sale at www.cawleyentertainment.com

The money he's set aside to thank us for doing this will help fund the episode.

Except someone was saying the one they saw sold at conventions had Coon's name - as co-writer - on it.
