STO Newbie Question: My Stations display says that my ship has two Engineering stations, a Lieutenant Commander and a Lieutenant. I have one engineer, but when I get a New Officer candidate, it always tells me that no bridge officer slots are available. It sure looks to me that I have an open slot. Is this an artificial limitation that I have to buy my way out of with C points or something in order to fill that open station? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

It's not related to your ship. It means that you have no open bridge officer slots available in your roster. Press "u" then Look on the left side of your screen. Are there any open slots there? If not you need to do some spring cleaning or buy more slots. New people often keep bridge officers that are worthless. If a bridge officer doesn't have a rare skill that you need or the efficient space skill, sell them.

It sounds like you're trying to populate a Galaxy cruiser. How did you get that far with only one Engineer?

The calendar in STO wasn't showing which STF events were running on Wednesday, so I had no idea which one was being run last night. I decided to do Infected Space Elite (because of the no fail option and it's the quickest) and with the team I had we did it really quick and picked up the optional. On top of that - to my surprise - Infected was the STF event for this week, so I also grabbed 4 EDC's and 1500 dilithium. I'm up to 32 EDC's now... I should have 40 sometime this weekend, which I will use to get my first piece of MACO XI ground gear. Of the three pieces of the MACO ground set, which would be the best to start with (offers best protection, buff, etc)?

I saw someone complaining last night that they had used 80 keys and still didn't find a Galor ship. What's so special about that ship that people are burning through money to acquire one?

I wonder home much money Cryptic has made on master keys...

It's an Excelsior-class Heavy Cruiser that I bought with C points once I hit Commander. And thanks for the help. I currently have two tactical/security officers, an engineering, and a science officer. I honestly haven't paid too much attention to them other than upgrading their equipment and using their skill points on their abilities.

Actually, I have a question about that. On my three characters, I have a growing number of those spoonhead boxes, but I got a different one when I ran my third character through the FE. It's a gold spoonhead box, whats the difference? Different items? Or just a higher chance for the more rare items?

I ran the ground infected mission and got two rare borg salvage which I used to get a nen Mk XI phaser sniper rifle, mostly becuase I noticed the mk X phaser stun pistol I got for free was more effective then the Mk XI rifle I got from the dilithium store.

Going to do some STF runs tonight from about 10pm if anyone is interested (unless there's anoter event running, like the academy event).

I need all the Dilithium I can gather for my Belfast bridge.

Personally, I'd wait to buy a piece until you get a drop, then you can buy two together. Why buy a gun, and then when you get a drop, it's for the gun?

Failing that, I'd go with the assumption that Cure Ground is the hardest to beat, so the least likely to run though as many times. Buy that piece, so when you get drops from Infected or KA, you aren't getting a dupe.

That's my general plan, anyway. Got a Mk XII shield, so grinding Cure and KA to try and get more of that set. For the ground missions, pretty much just going to buy the set. I've almost got 80 chips to cash in, but am going to run Infected and KA a few times, and see if I can trick a drop out of the system, and then guy whichever is missing. Pretty confident buying the Cure ground piece, though. Not a matter of which piece is best, but which one I'm definitely not getting dropped anytime soon!

It's technically better then the Excelsior, which is the most offensive Fed ship available.

Compared to the excelsior it has the same console slots, the same lt cmdr tact station, better shields, better turnrate and can potentially have 8 engineer Boff abilities equipped.

It does have slightly less hull, but if you shield tank well that'll mean nothing.

To put it another way, If I had to choose between a free +1 Odyssey (which will likely still be lacklustre) and this Galor, I'd chose the Galor without hesitation.

That all said, it's not something I'm too interested in getting. In fact the biggest draw to getting a Galor for me would be to sell it on the exchange.

A small fortune I'd bet.

Yeah, higher chance of rare items.

Quick question how much better than the Assult cruiser is the Excelsior when it comes to damage dealing?

In case any of you guys are interested in doing PvP ever, a few skills you should and should not take into PvP.

Should:-
Tactical team - quickly auto redistributes your shields, so it's a bit like a mini RSP except it lasts for 15 seconds and reacts to projectile weapons. Great against alpha strikes and sustained attacks alike. A good portion of players take two of these.

Hazard emitters - Needed for clearing a whole host of debuffs, from simple plasma fire to the Hargh'Peng debuff.

Should not:-
Boarding party - It's countered by tactical team, which pretty much everyone has (especially escorts).

Jam sensors - It's a fragile placate, meaning if cast on a target and you continue you firing at it, jam sensors will clear. It's really a waste of a sci power, when something better can be used instead.

Attack pattern beta - A bit like boarding party, in that it's cured by tactical team which virtually everyone has. Great in STFs though.

Acteon field - This is a bit of waste of an engineer slot. It's debuff doesn't do much and it's clearable by hazard emitters. Something more useful, like Aux2SIF3, eject warp plasma or extend shields should be used in its place.

I just use the Antimatter spread pretty much does the same thing only it will hit more than one ship, its funny as heck to use on frigate groups in PVE becuase one or more enemy ships will fire on their allies instead of you.

It depends on setup, but it can be quite a bit better. The Lt Cmdr tactical means you have access to skills like beam overload 3, high yield torpedo spread 3 and attack pattern omega 1. Also it's turnrate is 2 points higher then the assault cruiser, so it's easier to keep things in the best firing arc.

Okay, I'm thinking of going back to a cruiser from the MVAM and I am giving the excelsior some serious thought.

Part of the FE series reveals appears to be a new tribble - there are reports that feeding Ketracel White (the refined stuff from drops, rather than the commodity) gets you a Gamma Quadrant Tribble.

Oh, and the DS9 bundle is now on the C-store. I would really go for the DS9 Admiral's uniform if it were separate...

ETA: Just re-ran "The New Link" to get some White - new Jem'hadar enemy types, and a special death animation for Laas!

It's a Galor. The only flyable Cardassian ship in the game. That is what is so special about it.

I hear you can buy it separatly from the bundle at the tailor.

It will be interesting to see if that tribble breeding works. I will have to try the New Link ep again, and see these changes.
