Supertemp Returns to the Office

Last year, the season finale of the US version of the Office had several people come in and audition for the part of the new office manager. Among them was a character played by Catherine Tate. While she did not get that manager position at the time, things have apparently changed.

Catherine Tate joins the Office as a series regular beginning this Thursday.

I will sit through this appallingly bad show just for her... At least for one episode.

Same here. The Office is one of the most critically acclaimed sitcoms of the last generation, both in its original UK and US versions. It made Steve Carrell a superstar. Yet I honestly have never been able to figure out why it's funny. I actually blame my dislike for the Office for the fact I never discovered the actually funny, totally brilliant (and Dalek-featuring) Better Off Ted until a year or so after it was cancelled because I'd dismissed it as an Office rip-off.

But all that said, Catherine Tate will bring a new dynamic to the show. As long as they give her stronger material to work with than her earlier cameo. Better keep an eye out for her appearing on Craig Ferguson since he might use this as an excuse to continue filling in his Doctor Who guest collection...

Better Off Ted was one of the most brilliant pieces ever written for TV.

The Office, I don't know what it is that makes me like it so much. The show has had four or five different iterations, each distinctly different. It started out as this slow-moving thing that wasn't so great, then became hilarious, then dark, then surreal, then even more surreal and focused on memes.
