Hasbro to make nuTrek II toys

I'd rather have Hasbro make them. Those other companies would charge at least twice for them and that's without shipping and handling costs since for most folks, they'd only be available online.

Was never really impressed with Hasbro's stuff lately. And companies like Hasbro and Mattel seem to go for quantity over quality in both looks of the figures and so on.

No Mattel does quantity and shit. Hasbro does quality and poseability.

Hopefully Hasbro will treat the Uk the same way as the US. Playmates decided we werent worth the extra bits and bobs in the 3.75" range, resulting in my ex-girlfriend having a very empty bridge playset on her shelf.

Hasbro's treatment of UK buyers is well documented. You are better off buying your toys on ebay.

Don't blame Playmates. The international distributors told them they would only buy figures without bridge pieces, intending to release a set of carded bridge accessories (all in one pack) to supplement the Wave 2 range that was eventually canned. It would have been cheaper for Playmates not to have to change the cardbacks for the international waves.

Star Trek will provide KRE-O with a nice rival to the star wars Lego, but i feel like people may be jumping the gun assuming this means a 3.75 action figure line. It seems like there would be complications since Hasbro already does the Star Wars figures.

Wow! This right here is pretty cool looking...and I'm not even a big toy person!

I really does look like a cockroach. The inner section is transparent.

I like it, but it does look like an alien tentacle cockrach. It's brown and organic. I didn't get that vibe at all from the black moster ship in the movie.

But I did from the flea-shaped holographic Romulan ship in Enterprise.

It's not that unusual for companies to have the license to make both Star Trek and Star Wars items at the same time. Heck, ILM made the special effects for both film series. It's something Lucasfilm just doesn't mind, I guess.

I called this months ago, yet lots of people here thought Hasbro wouldn't touch Trek with a barge-pole.

Of significant note is Hasbro has a licence to produce toys FROM ALL SERIES AND FILMS of Star Trek, NOT just Trek XII!!! So, if the Trek XII stuff does well (loving the Kre-O range) I suspect Hasbro may start branching out...

From a follow up article:

"However I was told not to expect collector-oriented product to be forthcoming from the company. What exactly that means I am not sure, but it sure doesn't sound like we should be expecting realistic 3.75" or 6" lines from Hasbro."
He's basically admitting he doesn't know what the toyline will be like, but he has an opinion.

This is very exciting news! It looks like first they will be releasing Star Trek Kreos, which are Hasbro's answer to Lego. Can you imagine a Kreo DS9? A Kreo Borg set? Kreo Amok Time? I am STOKED!!!!

Prob. wouldn't get too excited, It'll more than likely be limited to sets related to the new movie. However, seeing as they are a building toy where you use your imagination...

Hasbro also has the rights to make stuff from previous Trek movies and TV shows too.

Ok, but I still doubt we'll see anything that isn't tied to the new movie....and probably won't see nearly the stuff we saw with the last movie. Hell, I still see bridge playsets from trek 11 at big lots for 5 bucks...

One of the reasons why Hasbro has the license is to make toys for the new movie, but by also securing the rights to make toys from previous Trek productions, Hasbro is placing themselves in a position to possibly do Trek toys for quite awhile if sales warrant it and they don't put out more product than the market can handle.

I think it would be wise for Hasbro to continue their current practice of only releasing a few stuff at a time from any given line. Too much stuff all at once will eventually led to peg warmers and ultimately stuff headed for the markdown bins, IMO.

Yes, plus, apart from a few exceptions, toys based on movies, no matter how successful or not, often end up in clearance isles.

Trek 2009 figures are keeping Terminator's Marcus, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Fabulous Moolah figures company. :D

Don't get me wrong, I would've snapped up the rumored Trek X shuttle playset in a sec. (I did love the shuttle designs) and of course I would've needed some guys to pilot said shuttle. and some bad guys to fight those guys, and so on, etc.
I also would have absolutely loved to see a light and sound kelvin. I woulda bought that over the enterprise. (which was the only new trek toy I did buy). But we all know unless sales of these new toys are VASTLY SUPERIOR to what hasbro projects, and its blatantly obvious that there is a HUGE DEMAND from the MASSES for anything with star trek stamped on it. only then will we start seeing spin off related stuff. I'm guessing that we get the kreons in Trek XII themed sets (which I will buy) Some standard size action figs, a gun and possibly a another enterprise (I wouldn't be surprised if it was physically identical to the playmates version, but with updated saying's from the new movie) We shall see though.

I don't believe it's that extreme of a situation. If the toyline does even remotely well, it may be considered a success. After seeing what happened with Playmates' Star Trek XI line, I think Hasbro knows exactly what it's getting into with Trek and will tailor their toyline accordingly. I also think they definitely plan to do stuff from previous Trek movies and shows at a later date.

I'm inclined to think that their Enterprise will be smaller than the Playmates version and designed to be in scale with other large ships myself.

So, did Art Asylum lose their contract to make figures, then?

Or will there be, in essence, competing lines from different companies making the same thing?
