Diagnose my pain!

RoJoHen

Awesome
Admiral
First, I would like to preface this with: No, I am not going to the doctor.

That said, my shoulder hurts! I have suffered minor shoulder injuries before from weight lifting, but this is something new. I don't remember hurting it this time, but I imagine it is still related to lifting.

When I raise my arm, I have a very sharp pain that shoots through the front of my shoulder and into my collarbone. It doesn't hurt when my arm is at rest, but I can push on the top of my shoulder (my clavicle, maybe?) and there is a more dull pain, like pushing on a bruise.

Not sure what is going on. I am still able to function just fine. It's just very odd and very annoying.

You might have a separated shoulder.

But I don't think there's any way that you're going to get an accurate diagnosis here. Even if we had a bunch of orthopedic surgeons on the board, they'd need an x-ray or at least a physical exam to diagnose you.

I don't know. The more I move my arm around and poke at it with things, the more it feels like a collarbone injury. I have no idea how that would happen, though.

Is it your right shoulder? The one you use a mouse with? If so, it could be tendinitis. Check your arm’s angles when you’re on the computer, the height of your chair, how much you reach out for the mouse, etc.

My pains from that have been shoulder or elbow, but not usually towards my neck.

Hopefully, it’s something as relatively minor as this.

Am I too late to make a Sybok joke?

Seriously, though, your symptoms sound a lot like the separated shoulder I had a few years ago. I didn't get it diagnosed until 3 months after it happened, but with a little physical therapy I was back to 100% in a few weeks. But again, you won't know until you go to a doctor.

^ Don't you have insurance?
Yes, but even with insurance, it wouldn't be free.

This kind of thing are often not all covered. He may be unable to get a X-Ray outside of an ER. One of my old health insurance provider was like that for a sore foot.
Yeah, I got X-Rays a few years back, and even though part of it was covered by my insurance, I still ended up with a large bill.

Yeah, and if it persists for a while, I will probably go to the doctor. I still want to give it some time to heal on its own before I do that, though.

I only go to the doctor when I need antibiotics. My body does a pretty good job of healing itself otherwise.

It may have to do with your rotator cuff. Ibuprofen, ice and rest might alleviate the pain. Long term, I'd say you have to see a doc. If it's bad, you might be doing things right now that are making it worse. Don't do that to yourself.

Indeed.

Years ago, I hurt my toe, but it never occurred to me that it could be broken. By the time it hurt badly enough that I begrudgingly went to the doctor, I had taken a couple two-mile walks on it. The doc was not pleased. And the toe took much longer to heal than it should've.

Just sayin', RoJoHen.
