Should I Blind Buy Babylon 5?

Mine came in over the weekend.

I hate DVD's shipped in padded envelopes cause there is never enough internal padding in those to hinder that which happened. Season 5 set arrived with damage to the internal case. The pegs holding the DVD's broke.
Now if you notice for some reason they shipped me TWO copies of Season 3, too bad it wasn't two copies of season 5.
I'm going to contact them but the replacement would likely just come in another envelope. I'm thinking of opening 3 and swapping out the packing.

CaptCraig, yes, unfortunately, that was a very big problem with those Babylon 5 Season Sets, I had forgotten about. The hubs that hold the DVDs are not great. I was fortunate and didn't experience any damage with my sets when I ordered them one at time, but, there are many horror stories of people going to the store even to pick them up, and having to make several trips back to open new sets to replace their bad disks.

Where's the movie set?

I have to admit, I don't understand this complaint. The B5 packaging is actually one of the better DVD packaging's there is. Better that the DS9 sets, for example. I had to use several hundred miles of scotch tape to put those cheap things back together. I'm amazed my Voyager sets have held together despite their equally cheap packaging.

Oh, mine were fine, but, many found discs, off the hubs and scratched up, I've had no problems with mine.

Yeah, I ran into that when I bought one of the seasons from Sam's Club. It think it took me about three tries before I had a decent version of whichever season it was.

I've had several issues with the packaging myself. My season 5 set had broken disc claps so the disks don't stay in place. With my season 3 set the disk holders became separated from the cardboard backing. The disks themselves are alright though so its not TOO much of an issue but a more durable packaging would have been appreciated.

My DSN didn't come in cheap packaging as I've got the hard case versions. Though on another positive note, my brother has finally returned my B5 tapes after 2.5 years. :)

I wish those had been released in the US. Here we got cheap plastic that is so thin, it fell apart almost immediately. Thankfully, Paramount gave us hard shell cases for both TOS and ENTERPRISE which are much more durable.

I purchased all of B5 from WBshop during the black Friday sale it came in nothing but a huge envelope that was open! All of the sets save for season 2 were undamaged however I was able to contact customer service and they sent me a replacement. The new packaging is much better than the old.

Hmmmm, my DS9, sets never had an issue either. The only issue I have with any of those disks, was my own stupid fault, I had a DVD laoded in the player, and put a DS9 disk on top of it, and now Crossover first 10 minutes, and The Wire last 10 minutes are all messed up. I've got another copy of Crossover in the Alternate Realties Set, so, only need to soem day replace The Wire. The hubs work fine though, and the packaging holds together just fine

No, I think you misunderstand. With DS9, I wasn't talking about the disks (all of which were fine), or the plastic trays that hold them (ditto), I meant the folded plastic ON THE OUTSIDE.

THAT is cheap and falls apart pretty easily. I also didn't mean to derail the thread into a discussion about DS9. I was just curious if anybody else had the same problems with them that I had, since somebody mentioned how cheap the B5 sets were, when in fact, I think they're pretty sturdy.

Like the envelope I showed in my post?
I called and they are going to send me a replacement season 5. I told the rep of the envelope and she made a note to, if possible, send it in a box. I haven't gotten a confirm email yet it's coming but I trust it's in the works.

Oh, yea, the plastic flaps...Yea, I can see how easily those could rip over time, if you're not extremely careful, I'm only on my second watch through of my sets, so, they've had no abuse yet

Captain Craig, glad to hear you're getting a S5 set, hopefully everything plays fine

I keep seeing this thread getting replied to, so I thought I'd pop in to pose the OP an existential question worthy of Kosh Naranek:

"Can something really still be a blind buy if you ask advice about buying it?"

That'll put a hole in your mind...

I've only watched my DS9 sets once, and season three's plastic case fell apart at the folds. 'Tis indeed one cheep-assed case.
