2011 NFL Season - A New Game

I don't know what on Earth that Super Bowl halftime show was, but it was bizarre enough for me to expect human sacrifice along with dogs and cats living together. Loved the pre-recorded vocals. With the lip-sync, Cee-Lo Green wearing a muumuu / the world's shiniest Hefty bag, and the bizarre march at the beginning, about the only thing that could have made it more odd would have been Gaga showing up out of nowhere.

That was like a Glee scene that wound up on the cutting room floor.

The half time show will never be fun again. The NFL is too worried of offending anyone since Janet Jackson's Nipplegate.

Next year it will be Dan Fogelberg and Kenny Loggins.

Between McCartney and Aerosmith, they've already come pretty close to reanimating corpses, so I'm sure CBS will fork out the cash for that.

I don't think I've ever seen someone try not to get into the endzone before. Makes total sense there but I don't recall ever seeing that happen.

Laughing so hard at the Patriots pulling a Green Bay and losing in spectacularly silly fashion.

This caps an incredible run for Eli Manning... but man if Gronk had made that catch (he was pretty close)... what an ending to a great season for him!

Someone mentioned yesterday that if the Giants won, it would guarantee that Peyton Manning would come back; he wouldn't be able to take his baby brother having more Super Bowl rings.

Some of those throws in the final drive should've been easily caught. They deserved to lose. Congratulations to the Giants.

Congratulations to the Giants and Eli Manning in particular. I think he has proved that the real question might be; 'is Tom Brady on his level'.

Interesting to note that the Pats, with all their claims of "domination" and "all time greatness", have no more SB wins than my Raiders, but unlike the Raiders, the Pats have a losing record in the SB.

Welcome to total bitchdom, Pats. :)

Sigh. This is the main reason I didn't want the Giants to win. Now I'm going to have to learn to live with Eli worship. I think he's a self-entitled whiner. I don't see how I can ever look past his pre-draft antics. Any college kid, even the first pick in the draft, who comes in and thinks his wants are bigger than how the NFL works, unarguably thinks he's more entitled than the thousands of players who came before him.

Honestly, the only bad thing about the entire Super Bowl experience this year was how boring the whole thing felt. Aside from the big plays made on either side, there wasn't much energy to the whole event and the boring commercials made it worse, since it sapped the emotion out of the room.

Let's hope next year has some better commercials, because if there's one thing the Super Bowl should do, it's keep people pumped throughout the whole thing.

Well, I'm sorry in advance for coming across as a cynical asshole, but this is the thread to talk about Football and I wanted to rant.

First, the good thing about the Super Bowl, Kelly Clarkson. She Nailed the National Anthem, and after what happened last year, I was very happy about that. I also really enjoyed Shelton and Lambert doing God Bless America. They really allowed the spirit of the country to shine through and it was very refreshing after hearing some bad national anthem renditions over the last year, especially Agulara's last year.

Now, all the bad things:

1) That was a very mediocre game. Yeah Manningham made a great catch, but I saw a lot of catchable passes from Brady that were just dropped and the offense on New England never really get any cohesion other than a few drives. Still, got to give Congrats where it's due and the Giants played a hell of a game, for what it was.

2) Is it me or is the Super Bowl just one big bloated media-made whore-fest every single year and only getting worse. I mean so much money is spent putting this thing on, and all the pre-game hype is so not worth it. Every year I find myself avoiding all that hype and even then when I finally start watching the game, I still get annoyed by how bloated it is.

3) The commercials overall were bad. There was maybe one that I liked, but none of them were memorable and I almost don't want to go back and watch them again. The Sienfeld one was pretty good, and I think there was a Doritos one in there but other than that, what a bad year. You'd think they would have some creativity behind the millions of dollars they are spending but I just don't see it. Very disappointing year.

4) The Halftime show was ok, but I felt really disconnected from it and it was almost like Background noise. Again, I think this is going back to the whole bloated comment I made in point 1. At least it was better than the last year and the Black Eyed Peas. I do think the best Halftime show since the Janet Jackson thing was Prince. Next year I really do believe they got to get Lady Gaga to do it. Time to start coming back with today's talent and maybe take a risk or two. She is an entertainer and I think she would put on a hell of a show.

I'm glad the Super Bowl is over. Time to switch gears back to Hockey and the stretch run, and the start of Baseball Season. Looking forward to both of those things.

One other thing. Chris Collinsworth made a comment tonight that really really angered me. He said that these two teams, the Giants and Patriots, should just play each other all the time. Talk about East Coast, Fucking bias.

Can someone please fill me in on the strategy the Pats had for allowing that last touchdown. I understand they wanted to give Brady as much time as possible but there must be something I'm missing.
