Chakotay and the native americans from TOS

Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but wouldn't it have been great if Chakotay had been from that colony from TOS? I forget the name of the TOS episode, but we all know it for Kirk yelling "I am Kirok!" a lot.

Isn't Chak ment to be from the TNG Native American planet, where Wesley got super powers and went off with the suspicious older man at the end?

^but wasn't that colony settled 20 years earlier, when he would have been a teenager?

Interesting, but the colony was created by the Preservers, and I would guess is off limits by terms of the Prime Directive. It would probably come off as more a small universe thing had that been done. I would not be surprised, if there was a great deal of interest and study of those folks by researchers of the Americas' indigenous people.
