The Phantom Menace 3D Release

I've come around again to honestly enjoying this movie and I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Wife is unsure about our 4.5 yo seeing it, but I'd hate for him to miss an opportunity like this.

The wife and I will definitely go, though.

My son wants to go, so I'll take him. He's 9, and has only seen Clone Wars on the big screen.
3D or not, I'm looking forward to seeing ANH, ESB, and ROTJ again on the big screen. I was 9 myself with ANH was released, very good memories of seeing that in the theater.

I actually want to go see it. It's my favorite PT movie, and, believe it or not, I still have never seen a movie in 3D. This would be a nice place to start.

Prob is, I most likely have to go alone. I mentioned it to my friends and got a: .

I think I'll go see it, if I find the time. I'm interested in the 3D, haven't yet seen a converted film, that looked good, but I doubt this is a sloppy conversion...

Yeah, I really fell out with the prequels for about 5 years, mostly due to reading stuff on the internet. Then I watched the Blu-rays and had a blast so I'll be there.

Geez, people who actually liked TPM before The Internet forbade them to must number in thousands! Someone should write a sociological paper on the subject.

Make your funnies if you want, but it's true. I loved it at first, saw it about a dozen times that summer, but then the internet told me I should hate it so I did. Then I got better.

I also can mostly enjoy the SE's of 4-6, my main beef with them is simply that Lucas won't release high quality versions on DVD/Bluray. I would gladly have both on my shelf if he would do that.

Showing someone the prequels first is the absolute worst mistake imaginable. Not just because they are of inferior quality, but because you would destroy the impact of one of the greatest movie twists of all time. They'll already know Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader, and thus Luke's father.

I've always liked TPM. It dragged in the middle when they were on Tattooine and the pod race was a little too long but it picked up after that. I'll probably skip it since it gives me a headache when I put the 3D glasses over my own glasses.

Not everybody who saw the Originals first despise the Prequels. I am old enough to have seen Return of the Jedi in it's original release in 1983 and then the first Star Wars Special Edition in 1997 but love the Prequels, especially Episode I.

I just got the revised Phantom Menace Visual Guide from DK Publishing. It's still as awesome as I remember the original...don't think anything has really been changed, except for the Darth Maul cover.

Only way I'm possibly seeing the 3D PT is if it's not only on the big screen, but dubbed in a nice-sounding language I don't understand (maybe Spanish or Portugese?), that I may sit back and enjoy the visuals without having to deal with the script. :p

It'll be interesting to see how this does in theaters. I suspect it will have a run comparable to the Special Editions.

I won't be seeing it myself, mind you. I'm a curmudgeon when it comes to 3D (especially post-conversions) and would prefer to listen to John Williams' fantastic score again than suffer through the movie again.

TPM is not a good movie. But it can be fun, if in the right mood, and the spectacle was pretty good. That alone is worth it for me to see it in theaters.

I'm guessing everyone in this thread has seen it in theaters before right? What's the biggest appeal for seeing it again? What percentage of it being 3d comes into that?
I had thought to see it too actually based mostly on the 3D. I don't like 3D but I am curious to see a big sci-fi movie in 3D, however this is post conversion I don't know how good it could be. I watched TPM last week and I don't think I can pay to put myself through that again.

The only Star Wars films I watched at the cinema were TCW and ROTS, so I would love to watch the films in 3D on the big screen. It's mostly the OT I want to see, but I enjoy TPM enough. Sure it drags here and there, and young Anakin is a bit annoying, but there are good elements to it.

It's TCW for me that I think I'd have trouble paying out for again. From ROTS onwards I'd be fine though. Money is a big factor though; I hardly went to the cinema at all last year. When I did the films were shocking.

I would say about 10% of my motivation for seeing TPM again is the 3D process. I've always wondered what a Star Wars flick would look like in 3D and this is my big chance. I don't normally watch movies in 3D because I think more than half the 3D flicks out there don't call for it. But TPM is a visual feast with amazingly immersive environments that could only be served by the 3D conversion process. Also I have the feeling the pod race is going to be absolutely kickass when the pods are flying right at you.

40% of my motivation for seeing TPM is just the opportunity to take my children to see a SW movie on the big screen. All six of those movies were made to be seen on a large screen and they deserve to see SW the way it's meant to be seen.

50% of my motivation is that I just plain love TPM. I have since the first time I saw it opening day 1999. Nothing has changed that.

I don't let the internet do my thinking for me. :)
