We get some new shots of the CG-Enterprise (around 1:19) we also get a glimpse of the new hand phaser effect. It looks pretty true to the original

This Enterprise shot looks like a promotional shot to me. That one will not be used on the set...

Yes, I agree. I was just stating that we have more views of the CG model now. I wasn't saying that it's part of any episode.

I think Xavier's point was that it may well not be a model used on the show itself.

Maybe it looks better in motion.

Hey, watch your language! There's no need to bring up things like that. I don't know about you, but I have a very hard time counting windows when things are moving. They'll probably just screw it all up and add dialogue, music, stories....all kinds of silly distrations.

It also makes me wonder how they are going to remaster explosions like the Borg cube in BOBW2 and the various Enterprise destructions in Cause and Effect. Here's hoping they've actually use the effects shots on those episodes.
I believe those particular FX were just filmed footage of actual models getting blown up, not superimposed explosions. They may be able to use that footage, but they may also decide it doesn't look good in HD and change it.

Wow, that one shot of the stardrive section swinging away from the saucer looks absolutely incredible. Looks like something straight out of one of the movies.

And the explosion looks pretty good in motion as well. It's still not terribly "realistic," but it's still a nice improvement over the original.

I agree, it's definitely an improvement over the original. Something about the old explosion just never looked real...always superimposed. The new one is better. How does it compare to explosions in the 2009 movie though?

Footage looks amazing. Does anybody know if Australia is getting a release of it? Also, I prefer the US Season 1 artwork. Ha.

I know at the very least the Enterprise exploding in "Cause and Effect" was done by blowing up an AMT/Ertl model of the ship.

Probably the best way to tell if an explosion was done using a model or super-imposed image is if there's any debris in the explosion or if the explosion just "consumes" the ship. The cube blowing up in BOBWp2 had noticeable pieces and shrapnel from the explosion ws likely done with a cheaply made model.

Just saw all the episodes (I preordered from Play.com too) and I have to say the work they've done is nothing short of impressive. It'll be very difficult to go back to watching the DVDs after this.

If the entire series is of the same quality I don't think we have much to be worried about.

One thing I did find distracting was during the intro sequence when the ringed planet passes by the stars in the background move in two different patterns. I hope they fix that when they start releasing the rest of the series.

Speaking of the intro I thought it was nothing short of amazing. I never realized there was so much detail.
