What Gives?

^

There are a lot of engineers in Starfleet. Hell, the Enterprise had five or six "chief" engineers the first year it was in service! Just because Geordi was a chief engineer doesn't mean he would be assigned to work on a particular project that would have required him to leave the Enterprise to do it.

Starfleet's got a lot of ships, and a lot of chief engineers, and anyone one of 'em could have worked on the Jem'Hadar ship, because all of 'em would have been equally qualified based on experience with Dominion technology 'cause none of 'em had any!!!

Also, let's not forget DS9 is a Kluge of Starfleet and Cardassian (As well as Bajoran?) Technologies. O'Brien had alot of trouble at first, getting everything to work together, and had years of experience. Why would Geordi, who has no experience with that specific issue on DS9 be seen as being more qualified than O'Brien to oversee the installation of the new Weapons systems?

I never said LaForge was the only engineer that could fix anything. I only said that he is a Starfleet Chief engineer.

If the producers of DS9 wanted to have him make a guest appearance on the show, there were plenty of sensible opportunities to do so.

I have no idea why you would argue with that.

Also, when did the Enterprise have "five or six Chief engineers?" The Chief Engineer on a starship is in charge of all engineering operations. How could they have had "five or six" of them?

Watch the first season of TNG - chief engineers are introduced in five or six episodes ('Naked Now', 'Arsenal of Freedom', 'Datalore', 'Where No One Has Gone Before', 'Skin of Evil' and I think one other) and only one (Argyle) showed up twice. He was also introduced as "one of our chief engineers."
