Haywire star wants to play Wonder Woman

Not Wonder Woman. There has to be a grace to playing WW - Lynda Carter had it, so did Adrianne Palicki, but Carino doesn't really have that. She might make a good Power Girl, though. Or Big Barda if they used trick photography (sort of the reverse of what they did to Chris Evans in Captain America).

@Admiral2 - I don't see Carino's look reflected in Hughes' artwork at all.

So just out of curiosity how would guys rate the actresses who've come out over the last few years as wanting to play WW.
My picks go:
1. Jaime Alexander (can't believe I forgot about her until Greg mentioned her up thread)
2. Cobie Smulders
3.Gina Carano (like I said up thread all I've seen of her is the Haywire trailer and TV ads, but that's enough for me to put her in the running)
4. Erica Durance

Megan Gale works for me...

So did Lisa Snowdon at one time.

Notice how your definition of "grace" seems to equal "Skinny mannequin who looks like she couldn't lift a wallet, much less a car"?

Hughes draws Wonder Woman as a tall, strong, athletic woman. Gina Carano is a tall, strong, athletic woman.

Wonder Woman is an Amazon, raised by Amazons, trained by Amazons. Amazons fight. Amazons hunt. Amazons wouldn't look like you could knock them over with a strong breeze.

Wonder Woman should look like a Greek statue brought to life, not a body builder.

I disagree, given what a Wonder Woman would be called to do on screen...but I would even take a greek statue over a modern pretty pencilstick.

And Mona Muresan's not a fighter. Of course she'd lose.

That's what SFX and stunt people are for. The actress doesn't have to actually lift cars, punch holes in walls and defeat men twice her weight.

No, but as I've been arguing about the choices for Superman, it might be nice if, for once, her portrayer looked like she could.

Why? She's a creation of magic ( or the offspring of a God, if you like). She doesn't need muscles to do what she does. What was the old tagline "Stronger than Heracles. more beautiful than Aphrodite..."

That's sort of my attitude, too. I don't expect Spider-Man to look like a bodybuilder because listen, bud, he's got radioactive blood. Ditto for a super-powered amazon with a magic lasso and invisible airplane.

Realism ain't an issue here . . . .

Folks tend to forget that if DJ Qualls was from Krypton, he'd still be able to knock the Moon out of orbit.:p

<sigh>

Spider-man's original look - that of a skinny teenage kid - actually fit the notion of someone with spider powers.

The Flash has never been drawn with scrawny legs. Whether he needs it or not, he's always been drawn with a muscular body with muscular legs in proportion. It is the typical superhero body inspired by,

Superman, who was originally drawn as a heavily muscled man in a strongman's outfit with a cape. He was never meant to be a skinny metrosexual like Hollywood keeps casting.

And neither was Wonder Woman who was broad-shouldered and had a feminine muscular build when she first appeared on comic pages. She didn't turn into a supermodel until much later in her history. Artists like Adam Hughes and Terry Dodson have it right when they draw her like that.

Whether she needs the muscles or not is immaterial. It's what her creators wanted her to look like.

Spiderman, I agree, should be smaller build, but, toned like no one's business, to be lithe and spider-like.

Flash... it seems working the muscles at those speeds, and eating that kind of food, would rip you out. Even if the Origin Story is responsible for his speed, the body has to accommodate moving at those speeds, so skin and bones isn't going to cut it, IMHO.

Skinny Metrosexuals? How much do you think Welling, Routh and Cavill weigh???

Superman was drawn in the style of the day in what was perceived as fit. He's still drawn that way. Same for Wonder Woman.

And Cavill is ripped these days (Like Chris Evans change for Captain America or Chris Hemsworth for Thor). That physique in the Superman suit Cavill is wearing is all him, like being wrapped in cellophane
