What Star Trek is all about?

Star Trek is about space....the final frontier. It is also about the voyages of the Starship Enterprise, its continuing mission: To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

People who care about each other, encountering challenges and succeeding; while generally being pretty tolerant and humane.

Well the franchise as a whole is about making money.

Though from a story point of view as others have already said it is about a fairly optimistic future etc...

Interesting views...too bad there are some individuals on here that are afraid to answer, and have to resort to an immature level....

You mean they answered in a way you disagree with.

There's nothing wrong with a smart-ass answer. It's all in fun.

And that could be interpreted as affection for the franchise.

Don't pull this sort of passive-aggressive crap in here. People gave their views and there were lots of interesting and some funny answers. Don't decry others as immature just because you have a different opinion.

That's not helping, either. Please refrain from personal sniping.

I like that description. :techman:

I wasn't starting ANYTHING. And as I posted I like most of the replies on here and agree with them.

THESE are the ones I was refering to. You may think they are funny but I definitely don't.
Its about telling sci-fi stories in space.

Whining about canon and continuity. And lots of "my favourite Trek's great, your favourite Trek sucks" -type arguments.

About an hour, including commercials.

8 letters long.

8 letters long.

And the all important Space!

Well I wouldn't have worded it in that way....;)

You forgot Orion slave girls, serious business that. Have a little fun, it's easier to enjoy the show with others, if you do. No hobby appears more dreary than one spoken of by a person who has no joie de vivre in it.

If I might try my hand at giving an answer to Captain Mike's question, Star Trek is about a lot of things. But for me, it's mainly about tolerance, open-mindedness, the desire for excellence and betterment, friendship, dignity, integrity and many other things that have to do with humanity's positive potential and that are so rare in the "real" world.

And that's ok. You don't find them funny. Then, either say so, preferably referencing them in some way so people know what you're talking about. But insinuating all these different people are somehow afraid to post something specific on a message board and that they are immature is passive-aggressive, especially if it's followed by the rolleyes smilies. Even more especially as it is a follow-up to another thread in which you received a warning for your behaviour. That's what I meant. The general rule here is to 'attack' the post, not the poster. I hope that clears my previous post up. If not, there's always PMs.

Also, IDIC. That's what Star Trek is about, after all. ;)

Thank you, that is the type of answers I am looking for. I too feel that is part of the equation. Not something that is just some "story set in space", but a story with a morality lesson about the human condition I can agree with.
