God I hope not, it would be such a shame to lose such brilliant model work! Fingers crossed the spacedock film elements are found. I am sure they would not have wanted to try and CGI those shots because they would surely be looked upon as inferior regardless as to how long they spend on perfecting it.

Oh my. She just looks glorious in that shot. The HD version of that should make for grade-A wank material.

Well the model work can still be seen in HD in the TOS Movies :) I'm not saying that every composite shot which included TOS film footage will be replaced, but that may be the reason they chose to reimagine this shot. Hopefully the interview pending at TrekMovie with the Okudas will shed some light, as well as official blogs from Doug.

Is there another version though? Maybe I'm being a bit dim, but I can't remember a 6-footer version of that shot. [EDIT: Oh, wait, found it, but as Start Wreck mentions above, why reduce the number of stock shots available?]

While looking for a screencap, I came across this one, CG that wallpaper away, please!:barf:

Since the spacedock scene already has an HD transfer for the movies, there is no reason they can't add the ENT-D over the original ENT like they did when TNG aired. Although that doesn't explain why they didn't/couldn't do the same for the BOP.

Sorry Mr. Drexler, but I would agree with changing the 5893729082310575 Excelsior, Miranda, and Oberth class ships we saw in TNG with other ship classes of the time (Akira, Challenger, New Orleans, etc), and inserting new Klingon/Romulan ships when warranted.

I enjoyed most of the changes to TOS-R. The zoom-in on the bridge for The Menagerie, the way the matte paintings had movement in them so they looked less like paintings, and the new orbit / warp shots helped break the monotony of the same 7 shots over and over and over and over and over and over again. I sincerely hope they try to break up the TNG monotony with new angles and shots (and never again use that off-angle through-the neck warp-shot where the stars are misaligned with the ship...almost as annoying as the TOS Enterprise flying at an angle straight ahead every episode).

Why not just re-composite a 'corrected perspective' star field? There is nothing wrong with the existing shot of the ship aside from that.

I'd say that since Drexler, Probert and others are aboard, that they are going to let the Enterprise dock outside the Spacedock, as originally intended.

^Makes more sense. I remember thinking at the time that the scales were all messed up. If the E refit just fit through the doors how is it that the very same spacedock could accomodate the E-D?

    Call me a dinosaur, but I still don't have a blu-ray player.

Does anyone think they'll come out with a DVD version of TNG-R, like they did with TOS-R?

It would seem to make sense for them to do so.

Do yourself a favour though. Get a Blu-Ray player. Assuming of course you have the HDTV necessary to watch it on that is.

I agree, just get a bluray player, the cost is minimal assuming you aren't in great financial straits, and yes, assuming you have an HDTV.

Down converting these to DVD hurts my sensibilities.

Lol that is the first thing I thought of in 1988 when the ep aired... the scale is so incredibly wrong.

I actually left a really long comment on his blog when he announced he was joining the TNG-R team saying the same thing. Lets hope CBS/Paramount/whichever one is in charge listens.

It looked way too big in Search for Spock and looks WAY WAY WAY too big against the Enterprise-D.

If it's that close it should be 1/3 that size at least.

If they do go ahead and change the docking sequence that would mean they would have to change this shot which I just loved when I first saw it.

I hope someone in charge tells him to shut up and start replacing. What's the point of redoing things exactly how they were, if the main reasons for how they were were money issues? It has nothing to do with integritiy or keeping the vision intact etc., it's stupid and noticeable stock footage that was used way too much, get rid of it and let the 24th century look like it a little bit more often. Sometimes it felt like Starfleet consisted of the Galaxy class and some old buckets from Kirk's time. Mirandas shouldn't be seen at all for example!
