From The Digital Bits:

"Speaking of cool review discs, CBS's long-awaited Star Trek: The Next Generation - Remastered BD sampler disc just arrived here at The Bits' offices
Probably the best news we've heard in this thread in a month.
The Digital Bits reviews of TOS on HDDVD first and on Blu-ray were extremely detailed.

From The Digital Bits:

"Speaking of cool review discs, CBS's long-awaited Star Trek: The Next Generation - Remastered BD sampler disc just arrived here at The Bits' offices this afternoon, so rest assured I'll have a full review of that on the site sometime tomorrow."

:-)

Outstanding!!

Aww, I want screenshots and reviews. Tired of waiting.

Heeeeerrreees SCREENSHOTS!

Only two of them though, and ones a matte painting. Also they look really grainy for some reason. But, the shot of the bridge from Farpoint is rather telling:

I mean, look how dark and dim the rear of the bridge is. Only two stations are lit and Worf is barely visable. That can't be an artistic choice, it has to be out of necessity.

EDIT: Damn, when I came here you two guys weren't above me :P

There's some fine film grain, yes. I am glad to see it. I'm sick of older material being DNR'd to hell.

I'm actually not too concerned either, some texture will give it a more expensive appearance (since that's what we're used to seeing from film).

But damnit, I finally want a 1080p shot of the ship for wallpaper purposes.

Also they look really grainy for some reason.

That's what a properly scanned 35mm negative is supposed to look like, though. On the negative, the grain IS the picture information! And the grain is slightly more visible because the TV Extracted Area is smaller than normal Academy Aperture:

There is slightly more picture in the cropping, not much but its there.

RAMA

Yeah, we're essentially getting those 16 SD pixels (now about 32 HD pixels) back that were previously taken up by thin vertical black bars in the 720x480 digital (DVD) presentation. As you can see, only the center 704 pixels had active picture information:

The fact that the grain is there and left totally untouched is excellent. It looks wonderful.

The last thing it needed was a trip through a computer program to remove the grain like the movies on blu-ray got. It makes things look like waxworks.
