Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

I've just seen Shaft, and there's this scene where Christian Bale walks out of his private jet and gets into his limo, and then Samuel L. Jackson talks to him out of the shadows. That was awesome.

Wasn't Bale an infant when Shaft came out?
There was a remake. The give away was "Samuel L Jackson..."

Frankly, as much as I like both ScarJo and the Black Widow, all she really added to the movie was some eye-candy and a gratuitous action scene.

And? ....

Oh, that wasn't really a complaint, merely an observation. ;)

The best scene in that movie is the seconds-long bit where she's changing in the car and we see her great, delicious, creamy thighs swinging around in the back as she changes her pants.

Ohhhh, ScarLo. You were sooooo great in that movie.

They should give Oscars out to women purely on wank material they provide.

It was more like a "Shaft: TNG" considering that Roundtree reprised his role.

Actually Black Widow played a much more significant role than just kicking ass and looking good. 'Tasha was meant to bring Stark out of his funk and help him to realize the hero and leader he can be. Fury's conversation with Tony at the donut shop was just the start of this, it is really Tasha's conversation with Tony later near the end of the film when they're talking about the Avengers Initiative that hits any real cord with him.

I suspect 'Tasha is going to have quite a large role in "Avengers" and seems to have some rather interesting scenes with Bruce Banner.

It seemed to me that, other than the action stuff, there was nothing that Natasha did that Pepper couldn't have done.

Tony wouldn't have listened to Pepper...and actually didn't, she's a distraction for him and he's able to shut her out. He also didn't listen to Rhodey either. Tasha was someone different and unknown to Tony, and already established as a "superhero" herself and a trusted lieutenant of Fury's.

I thought the conversation about the Avengers was with Fury.

You may be getting your abbreviated actresses confused.

Interesting comment from Joss Whedon:

"I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that's what my movie has to be about," Whedon said. "So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers' perspective, since he's the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it."

Yeah, having Captain America/Steve as the focal prism of the film sounds good. That and it should knock the interent trolls off their hate parade of calling it Iron Man and his Amazing Friends.

Boy, and here I thought SF&F was done taking the express train to Creepyville.

Don't post like this.

I want to own this

Although I kind of want someone to photoshop Ed Norton in it instead. I think that would have done a lot to preserve continuity and, more importantly, downplay the idea that it's Robert Downey Jr. and his amazing friends.

I've seen that Norton comment before and he comes off as taking the higher ground for sure. Now he and his agent may have been pushy or out right jerks in closed room meetings but in public on this matter Notron came off better. That piece says his Agent had harsher words, I wish they had recapped those, I don't feel like hunting for them. Friege came off as looking like the douche in this matter. I think it's why a large amount of fans are upset still.

As noted for visual continuity it would've been solid. I bet sold more TIH DVD's down the road even. Short sighted by somepeople somewhere I'm thinking. As a fan of TIH I still would love for some brief cameo by someone from TIH to bridge the film into Avengers also.

Entertainment Weekly has an official new photo of Steve/Cap from The Avengers. I think we've seen this as a 'spy' photo from other angles but this is a more focused HD version.

Good idea. The way Captain America ended, it's natural for the next movie to be "that crazy-ass 21st C from Cap's perspective!" Now we're going to be getting it. :bolian:

God I hope its like Arnold Schwarzenegger's first film: Hercules in New York. But you know with an American from the 40s.

I really like that costume. Kind of a perfect mesh between his 616 and Ultimate costumes, It makes sense that this film would have Steve as the central character given what we saw at the end of "Captain America: The First Avenger". I still think the main dynamic/story is going to be between the big three learning to work with one another and be the leaders of the team...with Steve ultimately stepping up to the plate and exclaiming those famous iconic words "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!".
