What's KRAD up to these days?

I miss KRAD around the board as well. He used to be here all the time with tons of info at his fingertips. I had hoped this thread would at least get him to pop in, but I guess he doesn't check in here often anymore.

Yeah, it seemed like when Marco was in charge a ton of authors posted on here all the time that don't anymore. Dayton isn't around much, I haven't seen William Leisner around much lately, DRG3 publicly left, obviously the new editors have no presence... It's sad.

I mean, like all messageboards, this one has its share of negativity and I can see how if I were an author I might come to the realization that it was taking too much of my time and bumming me out. Still sad.
Yeah, I noticed that too.

Is the implication that those editors did something to encourage forum partcipation?

I'm not suggesting that. It's true that they (and to a lesser extent Margaret Clark) were more active online than their successors, as a matter of individual style and preference. But I don't see why that would correlate with writers' participation online -- I mean, I'm still a regular along with Greg Cox, Dave Mack, David McIntee (Lonemagpie), and maybe others, and Kirsten Beyer still drops in periodically.

There are various reasons why individual writers might have become less active on this BBS. Maybe they've gotten too busy with work and family -- certainly plausible in Dayton's or Kirsten's case. Maybe they've shifted more to posting on Facebook; I know Bill Leisner posts there regularly, as do KRAD, Greg, Dayton, Kevin Dilmore, and others. Of course, you'd have to ask them. But I've never had an editor contact me and tell me that I should be more active or less active on the TrekBBS.

Ditto. I think I may have learned about this board from Ordover or KRAD or one of the gang, but I don't remember Ordover or Marco (or Margaret or Ed) ever suggesting that I should post here more often.

While his last post was in November, he was online 5 days ago, so I'm sure he will pop in sooner or later.

Maybe we need to say his name three times in a row??

KRAD....KRAD....KRAD.....

Hey, folks! Sorry for not coming in to post more, but I've been stupid busy.

For those who might be interested in my original stuff, go to my web site for ordering links for SCPD: The Case of the Claw, Unicorn Precinct, and Guilt in Innocence. And for those of you who have read any or all of them, a review or a like on Amazon would be hugely helpful -- ditto a review on GoodReads.

I'm working on a novella that's part of a thriller series conceived by Steve Savile (that'll be out hopefully within the next couple months) called Viral, then I've got to finish Goblin Precinct in time for spring release (the rest of January's gonna be fun....). After that, I'll be doing three short pieces related to Guilt in Innocence, and then I have a tie-in novel to do that just got approved yesterday for a new license. And I've got two original novels I really need to carve out the time to work on, as well as Innocence in Guilt and SCPD: Avenging Amethyst.

I'm also doing editorial work, both for private clients (info here) and for an eBook publisher. And, as mentioned upstream, I'm doing the TNG Rewatch over at Tor.com every Tuesday and Friday -- I'm up to the third season, having just done "Sins of the Father" Tuesday and doing "Allegiance" for Friday.

As for Trek novels, I'd love to do more, and if the stars align again for a Trek project, I'll be all over it, but it doesn't look like that'll be happening any time soon. Meantime, this spring, IDW's going to be rereleasing the Enemy Unseen trade paperback that includes my very first published Trek work, the comic book story Perchance to Dream. And I've got a piece coming up in Star Trek Magazine about Nemesis as part of that issue's series of articles about Trek finales.

Thanks for the update :).

Glad to hear that you're up for more Trek if the opportunity comes along!

Damn.....

Hm....

Hot naked woman.... Hot naked woman..... Hot named woman..... (let's wait and see....;))

Anyway, great to hear from you KRAD. It.s a shame that you won't be doing any Trek for a while, if not longer. But like I said, I think it's high time I tried some of your original work. But here's to hoping you'll get a shot at Trek again soon. ;)

Hi KRAD! While you're here, just thought I'd drop you a huge mountain of praise for IKS Gorkon, as I've just finished reading A Burning House - those four books are easily some of the very best Treklit I've read in recent years. There really isn't much I can say that others haven't said more eloquently - like how you made the crew of the Gorkon interesting as people rather than a collection of warrior stereotypes.

One of the things I most enjoyed about the series was the wonderful attention to detail, especially where the Klingon rituals and traditions were concerned. I'm somewhat of a "ritualphile"; I love watching and reading about ancient customs and traditions, especially ones that have survived to the present day, like the election of a new Pope or the UK state opening of Parliament. So, given that the Klingons are one of the most ritualised cultures in all of Trek, I was overjoyed to see them given the care and attention they deserve! One of the standout moments in this regard was...
Dorrek's "trial" before the High Council, culminating in his ritual execution at the blades of the Council themselves - it literally gave me goosebumps! I know that may sound a bit weird, but like I said, I love rituals like this and the "discommendation" action with the crossing of fists, synchronised back-turning and all. :)

Finally, I always enjoy your little callbacks to your previous work; the example that sticks in my mind from Burning House is Mazzerone's line about Sinnravian musicians, which goes all the way back to SCE's Cold Fusion, and makes me smile. :)

Speaking of KRAD and Klingons, I loved the little shout-out to The Final Reflection in Articles when Martok mentions klin zha to Bacco.

Hot naked woman.... Hot naked woman..... Hot named woman..... (let's wait and see....;))

You rang?

What?

Oh. Well, my husband thinks I'm hot... :nyah:

If you've really got Jedi mind powers, order me up some free books from Amazon or something.

Karen

Hey, rituals are what defines a culture in so many ways, so I paid pretty close attention to that stuff....

Danke. I try to pay homage to Mike Ford wherever possible...

Oh cool, The Case of the Claw is getting a paperback release? looking forward to it.
Not sure when, but it's in the production queue for some time this year. I'm certainly hoping to have copies in time for Shore Leave....

Hey KRAD, maybe I missed it, but did that Zorro anthology ever get released?

I've been waiting to read that thing since you mentioned it at DragonCon back in 2009.

Also, I've been looking foward to checking out your Precinct series for awhile now, but mainly just because you're the author... (I don't really know anything about the storyline.)

Is it an 'ongoing series' with an arc, or more stand-alones adventures all set in the same universe with a regular cast of characters?

The anthology is out. Amazon.com has it in stock.

I've only read the two Precinct novels, and they're pretty much standalones.
