Why do Vulcans call themselves after something from Earth mythology?

And there's Romulus and Remus?

Who says they do?

That's what humans call them and what federation translator software has been programmed to call them...

just like Klingon's in their native language are called the Tlh'Ingan (According to Memory Alpha anyway)... humans just call them Klingons and the universal translator translates the names other species call them to Klingon...

For all we know the Vulcan's might call themselves the Toblerones... and Romulans call themselves the Drow lmao

The difference is Klingon is an attempt to pronounce "Tlh'Ingan" in English, not a substitution of a Klingon word with an English word. Its possible that Vulcan and Romulan are also attempts to pronounce alien words in English. T'Pau's "Voolcaan" in might be closer to how it sounds in Vulcan.

So Romulan is what they call themselves. No reason why "Romulan" would randomly be assigned by the translation program as a substitute for an actual word.

The Borg are an AU V'ger. Ilea and Decker had Q - who was a V'ger virus. V'ger assimilated countless worlds like a giant matrix, and feeds off the psychic energy of it's inhabitants, which is where Q gets his powers from. Unimatrix Zero looked very much like the garden of Eden. It's inhabitants are still trapped within it as are Kirk and company when it achieved sentience. Q wanted Picard to find Decker in the future and liberate him from the collective and find the sensor - Ilia's memories, to stop Q from going back in time and creating the Borg.

She's listening to what they are saying and repeating. Listening is her job. So, it strikes me as an odd mistake for her to make. Unless there was some sort of interference in the transmission.

Aye, who knows, maybe Romalin has roots in the Vulcan language, so she makes that 'correction' so that Hoshi doesn't subconsciously dwell on the word Romalin and later go, 'Hey, waita minute!'

I'd say it's bad writing. Hoshi is the one listening to the transmission and repeating it.

It just means whoever she was conversing with was a phony and didn't know any better or care. Same was done when Admiral Forest referred to Klaang as a Klingot and the Vulcans corrected him. It's a referrence to the general audience that doesn't care what they're called and the suits that find it all ludicrous, or higher life forms that can't comprehend the meaning and subtle distinctions of our language.

Have you ever studied how words from different languages are transliterated? How there are literally conflicting systems for how to transliterate words from one language to another?

Even a trained linguist can make a mistake. Especially when it comes to transliterating alien words into English which have never been encountered before.

Usually that happens when there is a third party involved rather than a direct translation. Its why "Germany" and "Japan" appear on English Maps.
