What was your first reaction to the Spock/Uhura romance?

^ Tis what I saw as well.

Watched the movie again last night for the umpteenth time, and the more I see the scene in the turbolift, the more I like how it plays out. It feels real. Hell, the whole thing feels real. I do love the transporter room scene, too, and Kirk's response.

Despite the fact that Uhura's pretty hot, I see it playin out like this:

Vulcans only get busy once every seven years. and when they finally get some 'quality time' Spock would say "I'm a Vulcan. I didn't do it because I love you. I did it to save my life."

That doesn't sound like romance to me. Still, they make an interesting couple though and I wanna see how (hopefully) it works out.

OK, several questions for you:

Do you think that Amanda would have stayed with Sarek if Vulcans can only have sex once every 7 years?? REALLY???? You do know that Pon Farr is when Vulcans are forced to mate by their biology, not the only time they have sex, right? I mean, even T'Pol and Trip had sex on Enterprise. . . We also have Spock, whose last words on a suicide mission were going to be to Uhura: "Tell Lt. Uhura that I--" what? 'Want her to have my goldfish?' I highly doubt that was what he was going to say. . . And then we have Sarek, full-blooded Vulcan, who admitted to his 1/2-blooded son, Spock, that he loved his human wife; given all those facts, exactly why do you think Spock can't love Uhura, again?

The original intent from the writer of "Amok Time" was that Vulcans males are instinctively driven to mate every seven years - but they're free to do so at any time.

Of course, Enterprise came along and not only applied Pon Farr to Vulcan women but in "Fusion" had a visiting Vulcan say that Vulcans have sex only once every seven years. In true Enterprise Continuity Fail fashion, in the next season, T'Pol's shagging Trip a year after she had her Pon Farr....

Yeah, I know what you mean. A Human and a Vulcan in a long term relationship? It would never work, and J.J. Abrams should have known better than to try. He should have stayed closer to Star Trek's roots instead of changing everything to fit a modern audience.

Well, casting my lame jokes aside, I've always seen Spock as a very emotional character, he actually smiled quite abit in the original series. When Mccoy insulted him Spock was clearly annoyed (much like the reactions I get for my jokes).

Even if Spock could only get busy once every 7 years obvously sex and love isn't the same thing. After all the character has gone through it'll be nice to see him in love and happy.

But having said that I always PERSONALLY thought Uhura and Sulu would hook up. There was one episode in the original series, in the mirror universe I think, where she flirted with him to distract him from something and there was some real chemistry there. In another episode Uhura went to visit Sulu in his quarters while he was tendings some strange plants.

Anywho, I just hope the producers build on Uhura 's and Spock's relationship in future movies. Kirk was in love with a different woman each episode. PLEASE don't do that to Uhura and Spock.

Live long and prosper peoples!

Hey I just thought of somethin. If Uhura and Sulu DID hook up they could combine their first names and call their baby Suhula! Now THAT would be awesome.

cause sarek/amanda totes didn't work out long-term. and isn't canon.

:wtf:

Somehow, I'm thinking the snark o'meter got lost in translation in this sequence. . . Both Santa Claus and spaceoddity were being sarcastic. . . in answer to the post by CosmicQuestion:

Exactly. I mean, Amanda eventually died. We found out in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Sarek". Pretty cowardly for her to just up and quit like that. Doesn't sound like a healthy relationship to me. Totally not canon. And by "canon", I mean "shit I made up in my head".
