Help me get TNG back on TV!

To make the long story short, I'm about to start a campaign to get the CW Television network to air Star Trek: The Next Generation for another few years or so. I am following some advice I've found across the 'net about getting cancelled shows back on the air and whatnot and am writing a letter to the executive producer. That's my first step. But I can't do this alone. I'm going to need an ARMY of people wanting it back on TV. I've only got one other person, a friend of mine, who is also interested in getting TNG back on TV. Because the more people that show interest the higher the likeliness of it coming back on TV.

So whoelse is with me?

*sighs* I miss having to get up at 2:50 in the morning to catch my early morning dose of Star Trek: TNG at 3. I also wish that CW would air Star Trek: Generations again too!

I can't imagine that you're going to raise that army in the U.S. It's too easy to watch on Netflix or buy the DVD's.

Plus it's in the mid afternoons on BBC America most days. I would have been in heaven if they did that when I was growing up, watching TNG right after getting out of school. Of course, it was still in production back then, but...

I'm in the U.S, Fingle Bells, so no, I don't have BBC America and Tora, I wasn't being literal when I said army, I just meant a lot of people or just enough to get it back on.

^BBC America is an extension of the BBC...for America as in the United States of America.... our beloved country. I'm sure it's aired in Philadelphia, only two hours from where I live.

I'm guessing you have only basic tv package?

By the way, Tora wasn't being literal either....

Oh, I wouldn't know because no, I don't have cable. Womp, womp, wowowowowoooomp... ... ...

Wait, are you sure TNG had been airing on BBC? I was just on Patrick Stewart's IMDB page and on the "Watch on TV" section on the right side of the page, Star Trek and none of its episodes are listed.

It's on BBC America at 4 and/or 5 in the afternoon our time most days. Sometimes at a different time. They seem to be obsessed with marathons. Once in a while, they get to do a TNG marathon.

Oh, SWEET! Now I'm REALLY dying to get cable at this point.

Did they ever air Star Trek: Generations on that channel?

Do local TV stations even show rerun of shows like STNG anymore? If so you'd have better luck asking the local station rather than the network.

You could just buy the DVD's. They're relatively cheap, especially the TNG films.

Just buy the DVDs or watch online...jeez. The CW probably doesn't hold the syndication rights anyway now that BBCA is showing it.

Star Trek The Next Generation Complete Series DVDs for $240, 34% of what those of us who bought the DVDs on their first release paid for it.

On Amazon this item qualifies for free shipping.

The reviews for this series set aren't great, and really TV series sets seldom are great. The individual seasons can be bought from Amazon for around $39 each season which still ends up with a round $280 for the entire series.

Or you can wait for the release of the Blu-Ray/HD versions of the shows to be released starting this year.

Eitherway, I doubt a letter-writing campaign from people all over the world is going to convince your local CW affiliate to move the time-slot for TNG.

Can you afford $7.99 a month for Netflix? Then you can watch every single Star Trek series when ever you like.

I've got Netflix and I've been re-watching DS9 from the beginning (just started season 4). I've also been watching TAS. Every single star trek series is on Netflix and you can watch them at your convenience.

BTW, broadcast rights to syndicated shows are sold to local channels so if getting TNG on CW is your goal, you'll have to contact your local CW affiliate. Since TNG has been stripped out like crazy over the years, and now only seems to be airing on BBC America and Netflix, you're probably not going to see much success.

Getting BBC America, Netflix or your own DVD copies looks to be your best bet at this time.

BTW, aren't they getting ready to release TNG on Blue Ray or has that happened already?

It used to get played in marathons on some channel I used to get, G4 I think it was. I don't know if they still do it. I know BBC America has it on a lot, but I don't get that channel.

I would appreciate it if either TNG or ENT would get played on Syfy more. I don't know when the last time they played TNG was, but the ENT marathons they had on a few months ago were infinitely better than Ax Men.

Was it back in the summer and fall of 2005? SpikeTV.

Oh, and Generations should be for free on Hulu.com :)

I've searched. Couldn't find it. Maybe I have to make an account or something?

Makes sence, I guess.

If I may go a bit off topic here, when Disney released Power Rangers RPM back in 2009, ABC was the only channel that had the syndication rights to broadcast it. On top of that, not every ABC station aired it. Some stations aired it at 12:00 - 1:00 pm, others at 5:00 - 6:00 am, and some others not at all! My point in saying that is that I could see how one or some stations could air a show. But I would've thought that if a TV network airs a television show, every station across the nation would be airing it.

Don't get too excited, from my experience BBCA shows the same 10 or so episodes over and over again.

When was that?

Thanks, Trekker, for showing me that. People, I know there is the option of just getting the DVDs vs. waiting for the channel to air it again, especially with the super-hi-def Blue Rays coming out. I'm still contemplating whether to get the DVDs or to wait until they start showing it on Channel 57 again (my CW channel).

I grew up watching TNG on Channel 57 and it was my favorite show of all time. *giggles* I recall back in the age of VHS cassette tapes, I would record each episode that aired on Channel 57 and Spike TV, which is funny I should mention that because the summer - fall 2005 run of TNG was on Spike TV (when I had cable back then) was my last time seeing TNG on TV until years later when I found out "Genesis" was going to be on that night. I e-mailed my local station about it for them to tell me that they had been airing that series for 2 years! And that they were going to stop airing it in September! This was in April. One night in November before this, I walked past and found my dad watching something that I didn't notice at first -- because I saw Whoopie Goldberg wearing something fancy and I thought it was some other movie, and then I saw Patrick Steward wearing a red VOY uniform then I knew it was Star Trek Generations! I rushed right to my room and turned RIGHT to it!

I might never forget that. But anyway, the night I got up to see "Genesis" was my first time seeing TNG (the series) on TV since watching it on Spike TV in late 2005. Funny I bugged my dad to give me the remote at 3am so I can turn on the living room TV. When I turned to it, I kept down the volume so he could sleep and I was watching the scene where Data told Barclay to watch his cat while he and Picard go after the torpedo thing Worf shot into the asteroid field. Then some commercials here and there and I stayed up until the scene Troi was in command of the ship. Then I turned it off and went back to bed after she left to take a bath. I didn't feel like watching the part where Worf bites her face and the rest when Picard and Data come back to see the ship unmanned and power off was kind of creepy and scary anyway.

Because I didn't care to see "Journe... wait... I did get up the following morning to see "Journey's End" but only to watch the scenes with Troi and Picard trying to tell the Indian people to leave the planet so the Cardassians can have it. But that was it. Anyway, I didn't bother getting up to see "Firstborn" or "Bloodlines" so I skipped a couple of mornings and I tried to get up to see "Emergence" but then my dad yelled at me for my phone going off at 3 in the morning! I didn't get to see "Emergence". Thanks a lot, dad!

But anyway, yeah, didn't mean to bore you guys to death with a book on why TNG being on TV means so much to me but that's pretty much why it does... to sum it all up, it's been years (well, not that many) and when I found it out recently, it was pretty much too late. It's just that it won't be the same when I'm just watching it on YouTube or the DVDs. Well, there are no commercials or any of that junk. I understand that. But it's free to watch em on TV. :p
