DC's New 52: Reviews and Discussion (Spoilers welcolme and likely)

I have a hard time dropping titles. I look at my comic boxes and I see runs that I should have dropped a long time ago and yet, there are issue after unsatisfying issue in my possession.....

That kind of thinking is what both DC and Marvel count on, unfortunately. Glad to know you're starting to kick the habit.

Temporary victory at best.

Not really. I mean, if DC really wants to make more money than Marvel, they should double ship books like Justice League, Batman, Action Comics, Green Lantern, Superman, and Detective Comics and increase the number of books they release as well as making all of the books 3.99, the success of the reboot probably could have lasted through 2012.

The fact that the numbers are still extremely close with Marvel's business model still being Marvel's business model is still a win in my book.

But the novelty as yet to wear off. We're still in the very early days - someone a few posts up mentions it'll be issue 8 before the axes start to fall. If that's true, then that's the finish line in this race - if DC is able to maintain the momentum to there and beyond, then it wins. But until then, I side with the temporary victory crowd. Me, I successfully quit DC cold turkey with the reboot for reasons I explained about 150 pages back and since then the only thing remotely DC-related I've purchased is the Star Trek/Legion crossover which I consider an IDW product. Frankly Marvel isn't turning my crank either so I've gone from spending $30-40 a week on comics last summer to maybe $10 on a good week, mostly on independents. If nothing else, the reboot has saved me a fair chunk of dough.

Action #5:

I found this book to be okay, if maybe a bit quick and a disjointed, I wasn't much impressed with the "narrative" by the Braniac AI from the Kal El's crib-ship. Elements of this book I liked, others not so much.

Detective #5:

This one was mostly okay, probably the best one of this title so far. But, overall, still not my favorite of the Batman books. The second story in this book I wasn't impressed with either. I do look forward to where The Penguin storyline goes.

Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes is kind of a IDW book and features a DCU era Legion team so it doesn't count as a New 52.

Hell, it's what movie studios, television networks, etc. count on, too!

While I've never been one to buy something I do not enjoy, I do dislike dropping books in the middle of a storyline. That and the promise of a new creative team are my kryptonite. I bought Teen Titans for well over a year, despite not really enjoying it, because every time I decided I was going to drop it, I heard a new creative team was coming on and I stayed, hopeful that it would get better.

What gets me are the people who buy a book they know they hate. I don't understand spending my money on something I hate, even if I derive enjoyment over hating it. Case in point, Countdown, which I dropped early on. Others continued and spent over a $100 on something they claimed to hate. Between the various sites which post scans and the websites which slammed it in the reviews, I got all of the enjoyment I needed to out of hating it for free (minus the 7 or so issues I bought at the beginning).

Yeah, that get me also.
I've enjoyed the IDW Transformers series. It just ended with a big Death of Optimus Prime story. From the one title they are spinning out TWO titles each dealing with how two separtely led factions of Autobots and Cybertronians are going to deal with it. As much as I like other TF characters a TF book without Prime isn't something I want, let alone TWO so I'm not getting them.
Same principal for Thunderbolts that I mentioned in the Marvel thread. That's 3 titles dropped and I'll replace one with Dynamite's Robocop mini so for now I'm going to have $8 extra bucks!!!

That is a very flawed opinion especially since the 2 new writers on the TF comics are better than even Furman himself.

It's either interesting or laziness. Maybe Interlac got revamped, too?

It does remind me of the Reach's language in Blue Beetle, where the Scarab started talking in language like that and as the series went on, it began to resemble English more and more, until the end of Rogers' run, when Jaime could fully understand it (and so could we).
