I thought it might be fun to see if anyone has any frames from unused Visual FX shots from the Trek movies. I have a few. Here's one I've never seen anywhere on the web...before now. And, no, this frame does not appear in Cinefex. It supposedly came from the workprint for TMP.
I have a poster here where the Enterprise fires phasers on the torpedo tube of the Reliant inside the Mutara Nebula. Never used in the film. I can't scan it.
Sounds like on of the STII lobby-cards. I know that on some of the posters there are still images from the movies and, IRC, one of them has a shot of Enterprise firing phasers on the weapons pod. Edit: and it was the cover to the read-along record-and-book set that was released with the film.
I think what you're thinking of is one of the movie posters. This one, perhaps? http://www.realmovienews.com/posters/4899/5579
Well, as to the shot I posted, while it's hard know what it actually looked like in motion, the very presence of those glowing things racing seems as if it would have made the wormhole much more crowded and dangerous looking.
There's that shot from the Trek VI trailer that shows Kirk getting vaporized on Rura Penthe. It was never used in the film - a different two shot was used (showing the two Kirk's) and the effect and Shatner's reaction are totally different.
^^^ The TUC teaser also had the BOP firing without the red tint or stars yet: http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/bonus_tuc/trailers/theatrical_044.jpg
That's a really lovely shot - though maybe it would have been more at home somewhere in the V'Ger cloud sequence?
Dang. That looks quite cool. Maybe it's just me, but it looks a lot more interesting than the plaid vortex we got in the end.
Actually, the wormhole effect we got in TMP is in this shot, it's th eunderlying laser-scanned interference pattern, just here printed as a negative.
