2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Also, there was about three minutes left, he was at home on Monday night, and going for a record. He happened to be in scoring range. Settling for a field goal would have been more pointless (that's just racking up the points needlessly) and they were way too close to punt. Going for it was the only logical move.

Congratulations to Drew Brees. It must have been extremely exciting to break the record while throwing a TD pass. I think there's probably a 50% chance we'll see the Saints in the Super Bowl.

No way. Even if you favour them over the Packers (which imo is a stretch) in a potential NFC championship game, they would have to go through Atlanta again and then the Lions (if I'm reading the playoff projections correctly) first to even get there.

I would say 25% would be pretty generous still.

The Saints are much better than either one of those teams.

What's "much" better? If they are 80% to win in each game (and I doubt they are that big a favourite over the Lions), there's only a 64% chance of winning both. And then they still have to beat the Packers (probably).

I think the Saints probably are the second or third best team right now, but they have a tough road to the Super Bowl imo.

It was just my opinion. It's either going to be the Saints or the Packers representing the NFC in my opinion. I don't think the 49ers, Falcons, or Lions have the experience or talent to get that far. Definitely not the Cowboys/Giants

Well I'm not going to count the 49ers out, but I have to agree withi Starbreaker. NO looks like the team that might be able to beat the Packers.

As for having to "go through" Atlanta, I assume you meant that as a figure of speech, as in they have to play Atlanta and Detroit agian. I'm not sure how the seeds will fall out, but both Atlanta and Detroit are wild card teams, and if the Saints face either of them, it will be in NO. Arguably it will be a much tougher challenge for Atlanta or Detroit than the other way around.

And as for "much better" than Atlanta, I think the scoreboard speaks for itself. I don't think Detroit has what it takes to beat them either in a playoff game in NO.

Yeah, that was badly phrased by me.

Anyway, I do think the Saints are a great team, and they might well win the Super Bowl. All I was saying is that 50/50 sounds very optimistic to me. ;)

T.O. is tweeting about being ready and willing to come back to SF if they want him now that Edwards has been let go. Bad blood be damned, as long as he can keep his ego in check I'm happy to see him step in to help out Crabtree and give the offense a bit more of a chance in the playoffs.

Techincally they have a 1/6 shot? Not really. Naively they have a 1/6 shot, if you just use the logic, well, one of these 6 playoff teams will be in the Super Bowl.

But with the bye system that projection doesn't make sense even if you declare each and every game to be a coin flip. The Saints would have a 1/4 chance of securing a bye in that scenario, and thus having to win two games, and they'd have a 3/4 chance of being the #3 seed and having to win 3 games to reach the Super Bowl. I think that works out to something like 5/32.

I think the Packers and Saints are head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC. SF is interesting, but I'm not convinced they can stop a top offense like NO and GB. As a Packers fan, the order that teams 'scare' me in would be NO, NYG, SF, Det, Dal. NO is GB's evil twin.

Rodgers has outplayed Brees, yards record notwithstanding. Brees isn't quite as good outside the dome, and GB has homefield advantage. Packers have better wideouts, NO has better TE and RB. Graham is doing everything Finley was supposed to do, and the Packers D dealing with Sproles sounds like a nightmare to me. Both defenses blow.

The Giants played us tough once already. They can get at the QB pretty well. They can handle the cold weather. I don't think they're better than SF, I just think they're a tougher matchup for us.

SF, I just don't think they can stop those two offenses. At least not enough to where the Alex Smith let's kick a field goal offense is going to keep pace. Out of any team these guys have the highest fraud potential. I'm not sold on Harbaugh as a gameday coach. I don't think they can handle Lambeau in January.

Detroit... the coach is a total ass-clown. Stafford to Megatron is a problem, but they're a little too one dimensional. Kind of like when Favre would zero in on Sterling Sharpe every play. It's exciting, you can win some games, but you need to grow past that to become a dominant force in the NFL.

Dallas... another clown coach, an offense that won't keep up, a defense that isn't particularly good. I don't see them competing.

Edit: I ignored Atlanta. Whoops. They suck. 'Nuff said. Maybe better than Dallas. Maybe not. Not concerned about Matty Mediocre.

Doesn't matter, in order for any of those NFC teams to hoist the Lombardi trophy, they're going to have to beat the Denver Tebows in 2OT!

Obviously nobody has a chance against the Tebows, that's why I talked about making it to the Super Bowl, not winning it...

Congratulation indeed, though I'd wager that playing in a dome does help those statistics.
Anyways, congratulations to Tom Brady as well for the second most passing yards in NFL history.
Also, a big thumbs up to Miami for beating that fraud of a team better known as the Jets.

A bit of a non-sequitur, but the NFL really needs to do something about how the rules right now entirely favor the offense. It's really teetering close to being Arena league football.

Hey Falcons-stop running up the score you cheap unsportsmanlike bastards. Bet no one on that team or those pussy sportswriters will be complaining about THAT this week. :wtf:

Shit... they're not even trying. Matt Ryan has completed 6 passes. They're doing this by running with the backup QB in there now. The Tampa Bay defense is TERRIBLE.

Well, you see, the Falcons are simply playing for pride and to show that they can rebound from their performance against New Orleans. They're just asserting themselves.

Dear Oakland Raiders,

It's my birthday today, and it would really make me quite happy if you won, and stop getting all the penalties.

Sincerely, ShamelessMcBundy

With Oakland losing, it looks like they're still going to back up into the playoffs.

Tebow magic: Broncos finish 8-8 by losing final 3 games as he was 30-of-73 (41%) with 4 INT and 1 TD ... and make playoffs anyway.
