Techincally they have a 1/6 shot? Not really. Naively they have a 1/6 shot, if you just use the logic, well, one of these 6 playoff teams will be in the Super Bowl.
But with the bye system that projection doesn't make sense even if you declare each and every game to be a coin flip. The Saints would have a 1/4 chance of securing a bye in that scenario, and thus having to win two games, and they'd have a 3/4 chance of being the #3 seed and having to win 3 games to reach the Super Bowl. I think that works out to something like 5/32.
I think the Packers and Saints are head and shoulders above the rest of the NFC. SF is interesting, but I'm not convinced they can stop a top offense like NO and GB. As a Packers fan, the order that teams 'scare' me in would be NO, NYG, SF, Det, Dal. NO is GB's evil twin.
Rodgers has outplayed Brees, yards record notwithstanding. Brees isn't quite as good outside the dome, and GB has homefield advantage. Packers have better wideouts, NO has better TE and RB. Graham is doing everything Finley was supposed to do, and the Packers D dealing with Sproles sounds like a nightmare to me. Both defenses blow.
The Giants played us tough once already. They can get at the QB pretty well. They can handle the cold weather. I don't think they're better than SF, I just think they're a tougher matchup for us.
SF, I just don't think they can stop those two offenses. At least not enough to where the Alex Smith let's kick a field goal offense is going to keep pace. Out of any team these guys have the highest fraud potential. I'm not sold on Harbaugh as a gameday coach. I don't think they can handle Lambeau in January.
Detroit... the coach is a total ass-clown. Stafford to Megatron is a problem, but they're a little too one dimensional. Kind of like when Favre would zero in on Sterling Sharpe every play. It's exciting, you can win some games, but you need to grow past that to become a dominant force in the NFL.
Dallas... another clown coach, an offense that won't keep up, a defense that isn't particularly good. I don't see them competing.
Edit: I ignored Atlanta. Whoops. They suck. 'Nuff said. Maybe better than Dallas. Maybe not. Not concerned about Matty Mediocre.
