The goof I remember was something to do with teraflops, and it actually put Data as significantly slower than a human.

90,000TB storage capacity would still be pretty fantastic for a skull-sized drive.

And Planck time's a real number, it's just a lot (a LOT) smaller than a femtosecond. ~10 ^ -44 iirc. In broad strokes, it's the shortest amount of physically discernable time (the time it takes a photon to cover a Planck distance).

Anyway, back to the Flash, I kinda thought they'd move away from the Speed Force God-Mode Flash that Wally West became, now that they're just starting Barry out again. (Yeah, I still need to catch up. Money, dear boy.)

I like the idea behind Flash's new ability. And I especially like how an issue later, M&B have already demonstrated the weakness this new ability can cause. It doesn't make him overpowered, at least no more than he was before. I have trust in M&B in that they know what they are doing.

All Star Western #4

While they are still in Gotham this is really the start of a new arc. Making this title the first 3 issue intro story I've seen in the nuDCU. Hex is trying to leave Gotham with a few bounty's but gets pulled by a large retainer amount to find a wealthy mans son whose gone missing. During his search he and Jeremiah Arkham once again cross paths. Seems someone has been abducting kids and putting them into slave labor camps underneath Gotham. What the goal is of the work has yet to be revealed. This really is a solid book.
The back up feature is:The Barbary Ghost - a new original creation by Jimmy Palmiotti is about an Asian female of Chinese origin who is seeking revenge on wrongs done to her family. The setting is the late 19th century in old west towns. I was impressed with the first installment.

Action Comics 5 Preview

Looks like Krypo is still alive in the Phantom Zone and trapped with the rest of the criminals.

Last nights DC read:
I, Vampire #4

I feel I got cheated. Issue 3 clearly ends with the Bat symbol in blood on the brick wall indicating that's where we are going. Issue 4's title was "In Between Days", that was my first clue something was amiss. This issue is about the journey to Gotham, boooooo. John Constantine shows up and while it's not a bad issue it is clearly a filler issue that is stretching out the arc just, imo, to have another crossover character appear.

It's really not a filler.

It sets up Andrew's backstory with the girl that he picked up.

But the I,Vampire issue's real focus was on Andrew and that "new" vampire.
They met at that dumpster, Andrew showed him what he really could do and he couldn't handle it. He and John had to take him out then.
I'll reread it and look for the point you mention.

Krypto is awesome in that panel! Good Boy! Zod reminded me of Sinestro a bit. Ursa looked the same, unless that was Faora we saw. I can't wait for this issue next week.

I'm getting to like the story in Superman, but the prose sucks. The characters are a great deal more interesting than the oldDC versions.

OTOH, I love the dialogue in Justice League. The remark about Conan O'Brien was funny, as was Hal's vocalizations while touching WW's lasso. Aquaman...well, didn't he say in his own comic that he doesn't talk to fish? Apparently he talks to sharks...and he's about as cheerful as Batman. Those two should get along.

I like the Cyborg stuff. And Superman's skeptical attitude toward authority makes him a lot more interesting, and is fairly consistent with Superman and Action.

Next to Action, this is the comic I'm enjoying the most so far.

Justice League was fun, but to me, it's just filler. And I don't know about Conan, but I know Craig Ferguson does an Aquaman skit. Just to be nit-picky! As for his comment, I think it's easier to say he "talks" to fish than it is to explain how he can influence them. I think he said "talks" due to his lack of familiarity with the surface world and later, upon realizing how others took it, regretted his choice of words.

I just got my stack of comics from the past three weeks. I've already read Teen Titans, Justice League, Nightwing, Aquaman, and Batwoman.

Teen Titans continues to surprise me, in that I really am enjoying it and I didn't think I would.

Remember that Justice League takes place five years in the past. The Aquaman in his own series has interacted with the surface world and heroes for a lot longer than the one in Justice League, he's also a lot less arrogant and self-entitled. The one in Justice League is self-absorbed and comes from royalty and expects to lead and people to follow him. I'm not sure how anyone can actually like the dialogue in Justice League but to each their own. @Dennis...you didn't find it highly contrived (is that the right word?) that Vic's armour comes online then the first thing he does is freak out and stumble onto the Justice League's fight? This whole arc has been colossally disappointing to me in so many ways. The ONLY good thing about it is Jim Lee's magnificent art.

Eh...to each their own. Both are interesting in their own way, just different. DCnU just happens to have the virtue of being new.

Yeah I still don't know how they're more interesting. Different in some cases sure. "Better" in some ways as well I suppose. I still disagree that the 52 Verse characters are "a great deal more interesting" than the DCU. Superman is still pretty much depicted the same way he was in the DCU at least in the Perez book. Morrison has changed his characterization in Action Comics to reflect his Golden Age take on the character, when it comes right down to it he's basically the same character with a lot of surface changes made to him.

Actually since we're at the end of the year and some of the first arcs are concluding...maybe this is a good topic to discuss. Has the New 52 been any different for people who were reading the DCU before? Has it got you excited for DC? Are you reading more or less comics than you were prior to the relaunch? What about the quality of the books themselves? Any difference in that?

I know that for myself there hasn't really been much difference. Maybe it's because I've just been focused on the Bat-Family books along with Grant Morrison's Action Comics, and the Wonder Woman relaunch. I've ignored the rest because frankly I've no interest in them. The quality of the books in some cases seems to be crappier or not changed compared to what was being offered before. So I'm going to say there has been minimal change. As for my interest level...I'd say I've come down a few pegs. My pull list has also been reduced considerably the number of books dropped continues. The books I'm currently interested are:

Aquaman
Action Comics
Batman
Batman and Robin
Superboy
Supergirl
Stormwatch
Wonder Woman

I expect a couple of these to be dropped as well. Stormwatch is wavering right now as is Superboy despite the fact that I've enjoyed elements of both. I suppose what I'm getting at is that the New 52 hasn't blown me away. I've enjoyed parts of it. If anything it's made me get back into Marvel and I've been a huge DC guy over the last ten or so years.

If you ignore the lame duck six months or so leading up to the reboot, I absolutely preferred the old DCU to the new one. Action Comics, Justice League, and Batman are cooler now, but I miss the old world and the years of continuity built up.

And I'm still rankled by the "soft" reboot where somethings remained and somethings didn't, it's just so confusing to try and understand how the old stories are supposed to exist anymore. I almost would have preferred a start from scratch. Or, why didn't they just do an "Ultimate DCU" line if they want to reboot somethings but not others?

^ Yep. Also the "All Star" line was meant to be that as well but that kind of has fallen through. Hopefully Earth One sticks around for a while longer.

Also I'm not sure we can call the period of time prior to the relaunch a "lame duck" period since no one knew (except industry insiders of course and the news sites who had signed non disclosure deals) about the relaunch plans until Bleeding Cool broke the story. All we really knew is that something big was being planned for after Flashpoint. For all anyone knew at the time it was just another event not a relaunch of the line. All DC's books were still telling their regular arcs and most books ended abruptly due to the relaunch in Sep.

Aquaman #4 - I agree this was a great wrap up to the opening Trench storyline. However, it's clear it's more of a "till next time". I don't for a second think there isn't another way out of there. Aquaman and Mera were only in that one section briefly and as animalistic as they were would have another way out, especially for their queen. I'm still trying to figure out if they want us to believe the Trench are devolved original Atlantans or extra terrestrial? The little kid at the end "You're my favorite superhero was nice" only to be paired with the adult resurer on shore going "I still don't like him".
Oh, and Johns is just F*^king with us right....Aqua-dog. He'll have a real name next time, right? I'm down with an Aquacave, I'll meet him halfway, but dog?
