The Galileo....why Seven crewmembers?

When you're paying William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy the bucks, you make sure you get as much work out of 'em as you can.

Sure. I imagine lots of angst on Shatner's face as he gets the news of a bunch of redshirts who ate it. Then leads down the cavalry or something like that.

Yeah, that extra 7 in the registry number has caused all kinds of confusion over the years (probably a subconscious throwback to the Mercury flights, when every capsule had "something 7" as the name). I never knew the title referred to the stranded crewmembers until I read Blish's novelization, where he clearly explains it in the opening paragraphs.

I see it both ways - a title with double-meaning.

If there was room for nine seats, the episode would've been titled "The Galileo Nine".

...And people would stop wondering whether the episode title refers to the castaways or to the craft named "Galileo 7". :p

In that case, they probably would have listed the registry as NCC-1701/9. :)

I think the Seven/7 was done on purpose, just to give the title of the episode a double meaning.

I could explain to you the real meaning - but then I'd have to kill you... :guffaw:
