I'm trying to remember this episode and I can't. They all start to blur together after a while. :p Looks like it aired back in Season 8. I'll have to try and get it from the library again before the new episode airs.

That's really cool that they'll be able to get a high-profile guest star to come back like that. I can't wait to see how they rework the footage into the new episode.

A line for all guys to tell their friends, truly a classic.

And Joe's Tel/Con at the end has me wondering??

Not sure I would qualify Ed Asner as "high profile" these days.

Was he even high profile back then? This was before Mary Tyler Moore, right?

It would have been near the end of the MTM show's run. He was spun off into Lou Grant the season after her finale.

Yeah, Asner isn't as high-profile anymore, but he would have been high-profile for Five-O back then. Nowadays, people probably know him better as Santa in Elf and the voice of Carl from Pixar's Up.

Nah, Jack once had Don Rickles guest star in Jimmy Olsen.

I'm not sure how it's going to work continuity-wise if Asner is playing the same character... is he going to say he knew another Steve and Danno 40 years ago? Should be fun though.

I liked last night's episode, and I'm glad Chin and Malia got married without a hitch! I was worried something was going to wrong there.

I'm still not sure why Danny and Lori were handcuffed together  but that was pretty funny. Especially when Steve tossed the key to the handcuffs! Danny needs to move back in with Steve when that free room runs out though. Too much comedy gold to be mined with them living together!

I'm glad Steve is finally on to Joe, but I'm having some issues with credibility. How is it that people saw Joe take Noshimuri at gunpoint and no one has come to arrest him? Or come to kick his ass? I mean, Wo Fat had an easy enough time finding him. And Steve knows where he is/lives.

I guess we're supposed to think Shelburne is in Tokyo?

I really thought that the son of the Yakuza guy Joe kidnapped was going to attack the wedding and in the gunfire Malia would be killed. I was sweating the whole time just anticipating the attack that I kind of missed seeing the wedding. I'm glad it didn't happen because that is such a cliche.

I felt really awful for the parents of the dead kid. for some asshole to prey on them and get their hopes up was beyond cruel. I wanted to see that dude get his ass kicked.

I guess if they do some creative editing they can avoid naming — or even showing — the original Five-O team. If anyone shows up, it'll probably be Jack Lord, but they'll retcon him to be a younger John McGarrett.

I bet you're right--he'll be retconned to Jack McGarrett (if they show flashbacks or allude to the whole team.) I wonder how fans of the original will feel about that??

And are we supposed to believe Jack McGarrett had his very own Danno?

So he'll just be a plainclothes HPD detective. And we're just speculating, anyway. Maybe only Asner's footage will be part of the flashbacks.

Meanwhile, my viewing of the original series marches on, and guess who turned up? Captain Fryer! Still a douchebag and still with Internal Affairs, but in this previous incarnation played by veteran character actor Alan Oppenheimer (10x04, "The Friends of Joey Kalima").

I love it in shows where, at the tail end of an episode, two characters have a confrontation where one calls out something on the other the second before it ends (like how Steve and Joe did) and the following episode takes place days later and it clearly showing that nothing more was learned after the "calling out". I always wondered if the bullshitter refused to say anything more, what happened? Awkward silence?

Steve: I'm going to keep looking for Shellburn.
Joe: I was afraid you were going to say that.
    ....
Steve: So...um...how long do we grimace at each other?
