MW3

my hypothetical FPS game that I'd like to make would highlight ALL campers if they stay within a 10 foot circle for more than ten seconds unless it was an objective.

after 90 seconds, they'd immediately be targeted by a precision aerial attack.

I'm normally pretty good about the issues this game has. I can live with the lousy spawning and hit detection. I just shrug, move on, and hope that luck is with me the next time.

But I can not wait until they nerf the akimbo FMGs. Ever since word got out that they're way, way, way overpowered, everyone is using them, and oh my god the little fuckers are annoying. Now that everyone is trying to get a piece of the action before they go away, it is so bad. I'll admit that the new-found prevelance of that gun with its issues is almost enough to drive me from the game until they get it fixed. So annoying.

Sorry, I just had to get that out somewhere.

Akimbo FMGs are nothing compared to the complete and utter twatishness of range-proficient shotguns, or melee-proficient SMGs.

I want to like this game, but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to defend it. We played for about 5 hours tonight and didn't have a single decent game. Every lobby we dropped into we ended up with lag, whereas the opposition teams ran around the map gunning us down before we even had time to react. Wasn't even the FMGs, it was literally any gun. You'd see them, you'd shoot, you'd get hit markers, they wouldn't die, they shoot, they kill you with 2 bullets.

I think they need to start thinking less about elite and how much money they can rake in through that, and more about the actual game, which at times at the moment is nigh-on unplayable.

The lag compensation isn't an ideal setup, but here in the US I'm having no problem getting mostly low-lag games. Occasionally I'll get the teleportation nonsense, but it's pretty good.

Also Akimbo FMGs are fucking hilarious. I like having a powerful hip-fire setup, it's always a fun way to play.

Ordinarily we drop into games where the ping is <50ms. At worst it's usually <75ms. Last night we were constantly <100ms, and at times even shunted into the <125ms range.

The annoying thing is that the matchmaking seems to be quite good, I usually find myself in lobbies with people who're within a 40/50 mile radius of where I live, but it seems to make little difference at the moment. Last night was the worst night I've had so far for lag-comp, not one single decent game. I ended up having to logout before the disc got used as a frisbee or a coaster.

I'm now actually sh1tting my pants at the prospect of them nerfing the dual FMGs - they're literally the only defence against range-proficient shotguns and melee-proficient SMGs - once that goes, we're going to be in the same situation as MW2 when akimbo 1887s and commando ruled.

^The dual FMGs wouldn't be so bad if it was just the occassional person using them. The thing that's killing me is that ever since announcing that they were overpowered and going away, everyone started using them and the only defense is killing the player clear across the map. It is nearly impossible to win a head-to-head battle against them. Like I said last night, they've become so prevelant and the gaming situation so bad that I can't even play until they fix it. I can live with dying a lot- I've played most of my gaming career that way. But to get regularly massacred by the same gun over and over again and to have zero possibility of beating the other player head-to-head is just stupid.

This game has got pretty frustrating in the last couple of days. The Barrett 50cal seems to be no longer effective as there have been several occasions in my most recent sessions where I've shot opponents several times in the head and body but to no avail - not even a hit!

Consider the size of 50 caliber ammo and the fact that just one shot to the head has the potential to cause the skull to explode! It's damn annoying when something has happened that is causing shots to miss. It's like some game killler has put on a physics mod that distorts the relationship between character model and crosshair! Either that or people are lagswitching or I'm being chosen as the host way too often!

Recon is a gamebreaker, it's really the most overpowered perk in the game and it's lead to people abusing it by working out spawn positions and launching grenades at the beginning of the game. I'm convinced that some people are using location hacks and/or an exploit because the grenades they've thrown at me that have landed right next to me are almost impossible feats - unless someone knows my exact location, which is unlikely because I've moved on several occasions and still been a victim of this action.

I'm getting sick of hearing the MSR firing constantly - it's down to people running around quickscoping/no-scoping and it's the most annoying sound in the game! It's a tactic I seldom use unless I'm forced at point blank range and don't have time to switch to my secondary. Does it take skill? No, because it's incredibly straightforward to learn and is more based on memorising the position of the scope relative to the direction you are moving in.

My problem is I don't how much of my "suckiness" is due to the issues with the game or it's just because I flat out suck ass. I do know I was better in MW2 than I am in this game. This time around, the frustration level is rapidly approaching critical mass, meaning it's more frustrating than fun to play.

Sniper rifles - beats me why anyone would ever look beyond the L118A for sniping. One shot kill on the top half of the body.

I found it interesting checking out the gun stats on Elite as compared to the in-game stats. They're different. In the game it tells you that the Barrett and the L118A dish out the same damage, yet Elite confirms that the L118A is actually the more powerful weapon. Biggest disappointment is the Dragunov - far too underpowered now.

Recon - Only ever used it for the daily achievement. For memorising spawn points at the start of games, surely everyone does this anyway irrespective of whether they use Recon or not. Dome for example, if you start in between the B and C flags you know full well that the opposite team are spawning directly on the A flag - que frag spam on A at the start of every game.

I've reached first prestige and decided to spend the prestige token on keeping the Assassin perk - because it's the most useful (asides from Blind Eye) to me.

50.cal is back to it's usual effectiveness thankfully, I've also noticed that a player or two have given me unsporting conduct in my rep. Interesting really because I don't ever have the microphone on in the game lobby, I play fairly and don't team kill and I don't rage quit or exploit in any way. My theory is that a couple of the quickscopers have got pissed when I've owned them - time and time again - because they don't bank on the fact that I'm extremely dangerous with a sniper rifle at long range! It's not the first time this has happened to me, a lot of players tend to get really personal when things aren't going their way and think that giving you bad rep is going to somehow make a difference.

I'm wondering if they are going to nerf the Recon perk along with the FMG akimbo. It seems that the "unbalanced" power of Recon is creating a lot of tension amongst players. I've also noticed a glitch where my killstreak often acts as if I'm using hardline, I know this isn't down to destroying killstreak rewards because there have been several games where I've not bothered shooting down UAV's (which normally counts as a killstreak kill - if you're using support).

I've worked out which aircraft have flares to prevent a rocket attack...

- Reaper
- Recon Drone
- Osprey (either gunner or escort airdrop)
- AC 130
- Pavelow? (not sure, I think it might just be the extra armour)

The Stinger missile is your best bet for taking out aircraft, since you get two shots with it. The Javelin is tempramental and is best saved for ground targets as it's been known to miss on many occasions. Furthermore, the Javelin is much slower and you'll often find that another player destroys the aircraft before the Javelin missile has a chance to make it's descent to the target. I've also discovered that ensuring the early destruction of air support can be key to winning a match for your team - you'd be surprised at how useful the UAV can be when Recon is a factor!

^^I never in any COD game ever reached prestige....i doubt this one will be any diffrent......a 30 min blast every few days is enough for me for the online side of these games.

I'm on Pretige #5

I don't think Recon is really overpowered. It's decent and all, throwing random flashbangs and getting Blackbird style info on your map certainly doesn't hurt... but Sleight of Hand is in that group and that's still one of the most useful perks in the game for anyone who plans on killing more than one person in any given life.

Extreme Conditioning is Extreme Garbage. Just a total waste of a perk. It just doesn't give you that much sprint, and it does nothing for the recharge rate, so after the initial burst if you're a sprint junkie, it's pretty much all the same. I never fully recharge my sprint.

Blind Eye is OK. I'll take the occasional Predator death and go with a more useful perk. Air support just isn't that strong in this game. Predators are decent. Attack Helicopter is better than the MW2 version, they get me on occasion, but what else is really a problem? With so many SAMs and EMPs in objective games, it's not an issue at all, and there's really not a lot of air support in team deathmatch. Almost no Pave Lows or Osprey Gunners. And they don't seem as good as MW2 Pave Low and Chopper Gunner respectively. Very few AC130s out there. Usually only see it coming from care packages. Not that hard to hide out indoors for 20-30 seconds.

Scavenger is decent, but not too useful for any of my classes. I'll just pick up someone else's weapon and hope for the best if it comes to it. Sometimes you can just run over your old dead body and snag a lot of ammo for your primary anyway. If you use a fairly common weapon resupply is even less of an issue. I do like getting Scavenger as part of my Specialist Stirke Package chain at 6 kills. Right around the time ammo would become an issue. Otherwise I'm usually going Support, so running out of ammo and dying is not a disaster. The other night I was completely empty on my MP7 and Akimbo FMGs, got a desperation knife kill and the challenge/emblem/title for that particular circumstance. Good times!

Screw it, let's go into the Tier 2 perks and just make this a full perk review.

Quickdraw - decent, but not as good as the effect from MW2 Sleight of Hand Pro.. I guess the reason is that SMGs are more dominant in this game, and they have very quick ADS time to begin with. Not a bad perk at all for Assault Rifle or LMG classes. And maybe Snipers assuming it works with sniper rifles, I think the equivalent perk in Black Ops didn't but I'm assuming it does work here.

Blast Shield - Garbage. Will not save you anywhere near as often as you think. This perk is IW overbalancing stuff. Grenades and launchers were pretty overpowered in MW2. One reason was Danger Close, so they got rid of that. Good. but then they made grenades and launchers weaker on top of that... ok... fine. Then they get rid of resupply options via scavenger and one man army... ok.. so now they are pretty much useless. But still they have to throw in a Blast Shield perk? The Blast Shield perk doesn't seem to work as well as the Blast Shield equipment from MW2. Most grenades will only wound you in this game anwyay, and blast shield doesn't change that. You get hit with a grenade, and you're pretty close to death. Maybe not as much strawberry jam on your screen as the hit you'd take without blast shield, but enough to where it's only going to take one more bullet to kill you anwyay. So why bother? This perk will not save you from two grenades. This perk has saved me from Dead Man's Hand though... but that doesn't come up often at all. The pro version gives you some immunity to flash and concussion... but not enough. Concussion doesn't really change, if you're already aiming the right way you have a decent chance of being ok, if not, the blast shield isn't going to help. The reduction to flashbang effect is ok. It does help... it's just not enough to waste a perk on.

Hardline - Pretty good, just make sure you have a loadout that works with it. UAV, Care Package, CUAV.. things that don't require a lot of kills. I can get like 7 care package in a TDM game with hardline rush SMG style. Also is a good perk for getting experience bonuses when you use it with low level point streaks. I also like using this as a perk under my specialist package so that I can get two tier 3 perks at one kill and just kind of sacrifice tier 2. I like the tier 3 perks.

Assassin - Ridiculously overpowered. Counters just about everything! The pro version makes you immune to counter uav and EMP? WTF? The no red name when people target you is also WTF, because it completely destroys Marksman, which is an otherwise underrated perk. But assassin is so damned common, it's hard to justify marksman.

Overkill - Kind of useless. If you pick two primaries with different run speeds you get stuck with the slower of them.. .kind of limits your options. Machine pistols can be perfectly viable weapons without wasting a perk slot... and you can always pick up a second primary off a corpse

And on to Tier 3

Marksman - The pro effect is only useful for snipers, but the regular effect is great with an AR or LMG. Only drawback is that assassin is extremely popular and completely counters this poor perk. They should have made it so that they cancel each other out, but Assassin just wins outright.

Stalker - Not so good for SMG since you already run around at seemingly full speed in ADS, but it sure makes an AR feel more spry. Moving at that speed under ADS really does make you hard to hit. It can make it hard to aim though, but this perk does let you preaim EVERY corner with no penalty, and that is pretty huge for non-campers. The explosives delay in the Pro version will prevent cheap deaths as well.

SitRep - My favorite perk in the game... can't live without it. Mostly for the pro version, but being able to see enemy equipment wallhack style keeps you alive as well. But SitRep Pro... makes your team and yourself sound much quieter, makes enemies sound much louder... get a good pair of headphones and it's like having ESP. you've got to understand that in COD games you're limited to a pretty narrow field of vision, like 60-70 degrees or something ridiculous. You just can't see everything coming... but hey, you can HEAR everything coming. This reduces incidences of me being caught off guard to Dead Silence users, and hardcore campers.

Steady Aim - Love the perk, grab FMG Akimbo and that gun that looks like a Super Soaker and have at it! Hipfire is just plain fun, feels like playing Doom or Quake or something... back to a time with no ADS. The pro version gets your weapon ready to shoot faster coming out of sprint. Pretty good for an aggressive player like myself. Definitely a perk that finds its way into my Specialist chain

Dead Silence - A good perk for Free For All, where sitrep doesn't shine quite as much because there are no teammate sounds to reduce, and more people key in on sound. In most game types this perk isn't as useful. In MW2 Ninja Pro had other benefits, some of what is in Assassin now, but in this one they gave you the immunity to fall damage in a game without that much fall damage... so this perk is a lot less common than Ninja was... Using this for sound in regular game types does't work that well. Biggest problem is your teammates are just as loud as the enemy. And they tend to spawn two feet behind you and start tromping about, so you will either overreact to people springing into existence, or become desensitized and miss sounds from enemies. Though, as a SitRep user... whenever someone DOES use this perk it pretty much destroys me. The game claims that the two cancel each other out, but of course they don't. Dead Silence is mostly just a perk that puts you at an advantage over SitRep Pro abusers... but there just aren't that many people going all in with SitRep for some reason, so that limits Dead Silence's usefulness.

Ugh, tonight in MW3 nothing but server disconnects. The last one came 13 kills into my specialist streak on Bakaara, probably the only map that has enough space to where you can stay alive on your own merits rather than just hope you don't run into the entire enemy team spawning on top of you. That game had MOAB written all over it, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I don't think I've gotten a MOAB since before my first prestige :(

I think I'm one of the few people who actually likes the visual effect that the MOAB leaves in it's wake. I like it because it makes it initially difficult to adapt to the change in the scene and slows the pace of the match, giving everybody a chance to regroup.

It seems that not a lot of people know that you can get up on top of the large tree stump in Village. It's 50/50 as a sniper spot, depending on how quickly you get up there and get into a prone position. It's also dependant on how many enemies are rushing towards you, if there are none then you can pretty much spend ages camping there.

I like to choose my own sniping spots, which creates some interesting and unconventional challenges for the opposing team. On Fallen I use the stair rails to my advantage by going prone on them and waiting for enemies to approach. On Interchange I tend to position myself near the wrecks because you can shoot through the windows and get a lot of cover since they cannot be destroyed by gunfire. The bus is also a favourite of mine, but it's exposed and difficult to get into prone cover when you are in the best shooting positions.

Asides from sniping, I've discovered that the Type 95 is probably the best assault rifle in the game.

Just got done playing for the last hour or so. Which means I've spent the last hour cursing my head off. Damn this game is like being hooked on cigarettes or drugs. I REALLY REALLY want to quit it, but I just keep coming back for more punishment. Just so I can get mad all over again.

I know they've been dicking around with lag comp on the latest patch, but it seems even worse now than beforehand. Absolutely unplayable tonight for me. Every random encounter ends with me dead before I can even shoot from the hip.
