Wow. Either the producers are being cheap or Del Toro is overestimating his box office clout. Or both.

    No Khan. Please no. :scream:

They really didn't have any other ideas?

Kirk vs. Kong would be incredible. Or Kirk vs. Donkey Kong.

I like Del Toro. Ah, well.

Javier Bardem is still filming 007, right? What's Antonio Banderas up to?

As far as we know they aren't using Khan.

The report at Vulture about Del Toro passing on the movie also confirms that Khan is the villain.

Bleagh. My interest in the movie has dropped. But I'll still go see it. This reminds me of my disappointment when I found out the new movie (VIII) had a Borg Queen. I waited until it hit the cheap seats, but I thoroughly enjoyed it in part because my expectations were so low.

I guess this is a good news/bad news scenario (for me at least). I really don't like Del Toro, so a happy dance was my first response. This was followed immediately by a "no, anything but that" feeling on the Khan rumour resurfacing.

<sigh> Do they want me to lose interest in this film?

Excellent! I'd love to see a new take on Khan. :D

It's too bad Del Toro is out, I think he would have knocked it out of the park. But I'm sure Abrams will find another capable actor to take his place.

I'm sure they're not giving any thought to whether you lose interest in the film. You're one viewer, and they've never heard of you.

They're probably very concerned with how to arouse interest in the film amongst the larger audience, however - and Khan would be the only existing Trek villain that most people know, as well as the central character in what appears after thirty years or so to be the least-forgotten Star Trek movie.

I do feel bad for Pine, though, if Khan really is the villain. People are going to start asking him to scream "KHAAAAAAN!" all the time. :p

Did Abrams confirm that Del Toro won't be Khan, but NOT that there is no Khan in this movie? :rommie:

What other actors do you think could pull off Khan now that Del Toro is out?

Bardim would have been the best choice, much better than Del Toro but he is filming the Bond movie through next summer so he is most likely out

Nestor Carbonel (Lost alum) looks a hell of alot like Khan facially but he needs special hollywood action hero-prowrestling - NFL vitamins to put on 20 or 30 pounds of muscle to be convincing. Not a huge starpower name but he could be terrific

Yeah. Looks like Abrams was really denying that Del Toro was in the film and not that Khan wasn't the bad guy. I vote for Naveen Andrews as Khan. Ever since I first saw him on Lost I thought that he'd make a great Khan.

And yet the 2009 movie did pretty well with an all-new villain that not even the fans had heard of.
