Just a Small Part, but Sisko Should Have Been in Caretaker

Photon

Commodore
Commodore
Picard was in Emissary I and II
Sisko should have been in that episode but not only for that reason but for that fact that we like continuity

Feel free to flame

Flame? I like that idea. Tuvok could have tipped off Starfleet intelligence, leading Sisko chase Chakotay's ship to the border of the bad lands. Sisko could have been the one to brief Janeway. I hated Caretaker and I like Sisko, so that works for me.

Not a bad idea at all. I like the 'passing of the torch' - continuity idea as well. It would have made sense and fit nicely, too.

Quark was in "Caretaker." That's all the continuity you need. The passing of the torch thing doesn't have to involve the previous captain. Kirk wasn't in "Encounter at Farpoint."

That said, I don't think it would have been a bad idea to have Sisko in "Caretaker," especially given his feelings towards the Maquis (and more specifically, former Starfleet officers that joined the Maquis).

I think of something else perhaps more important than one character's appearance to serve continuity.

DS9 was the last stop before Voyager disappeared in the Badlands. I'd like to have seen some later DS9 eps reference Voyager's loss. Not necessarily a major plot point, but a comment about search parties, or discussion about the loss, a memorial service reference, even a brief throwaway scene. Something. Coulda been nice. Not required, but nice.

LOL, I pity the po fool Chakotay if Sisko gets on his ass.

Sisko could've been in Caretaker, or not. What I would've found more interesting would been a search for the Voyager taking place on an episode of DS9. The Badlands where the Voyager disapeared, being in the Bajoran sector, it would've made sense for Starfleet to send the Defiant to check once the Voyager was overdue.

It didn't even have to be an entire episode, just a mention would have sufficed.

Caretaker knew what to do. Sisko would use all QT's to F-up the Caretaker's array.

I like that your idea about including the search for Voyager some how. I think Sisko should have been in Caretaker, just like Picard was in Emissary. Could have been a nice "passing of the torch" scene.

People seem to be ignoring the fact that they had a passing of the torch scene -- with Quark! Hell, the fact that they show DS9 at all is a passing of the torch.

I really don't get this idea that a torch was being passed with Caretaker. Even putting aside questions about their relative importance, quality and popularity, DS9 was still on television for another three and a half years after Voyager started.

this idea that a torch was being passed
Passing the torch, as in touching base. Telling the audience that "see, this is Star Trek."

And that Voyager would be tied into the same continuity universe as DS9, and by extension TNG.

:)

If that wasn't clear to a viewer within the first five minutes of Voyager starting than I doubt having Sisko turn up is going to help. ;)

While I agree they should've got someone from Starfleet to do a scene along the lines of "Good luck Captain, we've had a similar problems with the Maquis so I hope you find what you're looking for", the main issue I have with it is that at that time in continuity Janeway would've outranked Sisko.

Which might have worked to set up the new series to see even the boss of the currently active series defers to your new lead, but as a DS9 fan I don't think I could've quite stomached Sisko having to call Janeway Sir (then Ma'am, then Captain ;) )

(Though I'm not sure on Military protocol when it comes to higher ranking ship captains coming on board a port commanded by someone of lower rank to them.....)

Still think they should've had a better linking scene than just the opportunity to make racist jokes about the Ferengi for sure!

Exactly, the whole thing w/Quark, Kim, and Paris seemed a little condescending towards DS9

Of course the real world answer was probably they couldn't afford Avery, especially with the larger than usual pilot cast with the double bluff they tried to pull (hiring actors to play the pilot, doctor, first officer, etc, giving them screentime then killing them off)
