"Apple Bloom finally gets her Cutie Mark! But joy turns to panic as she gets a second, then a third, then a dozen cutie marks."

Well. I was wondering what was taking you so long. ;)

Poor Apple Bloom. I wonder whether the episode will end with her getting her cutie mark or not, and if she does what that will mean for the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

I'd say she'll always be loyal to her friends, the whole point was sticking together until they all got their CM's.

As for her finally having one by the end of the episode I'm not sure, she was the first one we saw trying so hard to get hers, so it would make sense for her to get one first.

Just wonder if she'll be the first of the Apple Family not to have an apple based cutie mark.

This episode was flat-out hilarious! Great visual gag with the Big Lebowski ponies in the bowling alley. Tell me again how this is a show just for little girls... :p

And Pony Jesus polishing his ball, yeah. The background Ponies got a lot of great moments this week, Berry, the triplets, Mr and Mrs Cake, the hazmatters, Colgate.

Great episode, not a big fan of Zecora but plenty of other Pony, I love little Apple Bloom, wanted her to have her mark properly by the end of episode but oh well.

No Rainbow Dash again, me no likey.

It wasn't just Pony Jesus. In the bit where Scootaloo's ball ricochets around the bowling alley, there's also Pony Dude and Pony Walter.

^Jeez, you guys are good at catching these background ponies. I'l have to go back and check for them when a higher-quality rip come out.

As for the episode....ugh. It's getting a lot of love on EqD, but I don't see why. In a 22-minute time slot, they had to pad the story with minutes and minutes of Applebloom showing off. Some of the gags were good (loved Spike crushing on Twilight's Rarity hairdo), but this was about the least story and character-driven episode so far this season. Other than Applebloom's distress (which lasted about five minutes), there wasn't any character conflict to speak of. This was one of the rare instances where I really was aware I was watching a little kid's cartoon.

And, I mean, seriously. They padded the episode to fill the run time. On a show that usually has to rush through things in to fit them in. Oh well. I guess they can't all be winners.

:D

(Sorry about the clue thing in the corner, the HUB picked a hay of a time to advertise another show).

A Great ep lots of funny moments. Twilight with the Rarity hair was great. I might watch this ep again later.

:guffaw: Love the threadbomb, J..

Well, it's true that there wasn't as much plot as in previous episodes but the Cutie Mark Crusaders are so cute that I didn't mind. I also liked the gags. And we got Zecora, too. A filler episode, but a very enjoyable one, I thought.

Well, that sucked. 22 minutes of watching Apple Bloom perform stunts while the whole town acted out of character. When AB's teacher told the class to take the day off to watch AB's hula-hooping I figured AB had a spell cast on her fake cutie mark, but nope, it was all real. Apparently kids can shut down a school by playing a game during recess -- who knew? The jokes fell flat and the plot was non-existent. It was nice to see Zecora again, but that's about it.

I give it a D.

The town was in character. This is how the town behaves. We've seen it consistently throughout the series. Cheerielee (AppleBloom's teacher) didn't say to take the whole day off, but they were excited at AppleBloom's (increasingly) amazing talent(s), and so she asked AppleBloom to show everyone how loopty hooping was done. It's not like the school has ever pretended to be as rigid as an average real life school. There's no cynicism here. For Cheerielee, this is a learning opportunity for her students, and since it seems like the school body takes lots of field trips, this wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary, and things changed when AppleBloom was suddenly capable of two cutie mark talents, which was either extremely rare, or almost unheard of. That changes the context of what happens afterward.

That said, why is it easier for you to believe that being under a magic spell would make it more reasonable, but you find a teacher allowing flexibility in her curricula, in lieu of a special circumstance, to strain plausibility?

Also, remember: talking ponies that can bowl.

Well, I can't really answer for Kelthaz, but as far as I'm concerned, how willing I am to suspend disbelief is directly related to how worthwhile I think the results of that suspension are. There've been lots of times on this show where some conceit has made me raise an eyebrow or two, but usually the payoff wins me over or makes me understand why they chose to do something a certain way.

This time, I just thought the schoolyard hula-hooping scene was five minutes and twenty seconds of horrible. (And, yes, I timed it. Threadbomb notwithstanding, they padded the hell out that scene.) It was a scene needed only to establish Applebloom's new "talent," yet the writers dragged it on forever and ever; I didn't find it funny, interesting or necessary. The fact that they had to bend plausibility to the breaking point to get us there (e.g., let's cancel class and WATCH SOME STUNTS!!!11!) just added insult to injury. That, IMO, is the source of the objection.

So, yeah, I really hated this episode. Which is rare for MLP, but I guess it had to happen some time.

I guess I just enjoyed it and didn't feel it was at all padded. YMMV, of course, but insult? Nah. Just harmless fun.

Gep summed up my thoughts quite well on the scene, so I'll just echo his opinion. The scene could have ended with the teacher dragging them all back to class, but instead the writer thought we needed more exciting hula-hooping action! How about skipping the stunts and spending more time showing the effects her cutie pox has on the rest of Ponyville? You know, all that great character stuff that elevated the show above the original MLPs.
