Original NX-01

Certainly not a hideous design by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps a little too streamlined and 24th century to be believable as a precursor to Kirk's Enterprise.

I want to. But I'm with the others. She looks too modern. I've pondered trying to add some of that Masao Okazaki magic to the design, or doing her up as an early 24th ship.

It's not a good finished design as 1701 predecessor, but I think it'd be a good start for a design. I think surface details and markings would make all the difference.

I was going to say that as well - it's just a preliminary sketch. Had they decided to stick with the classic Connie layout, they would have continued to refine the shapes and details to make it 22nd century appropriate.

I think MadMan was going to do this, but I had a link to where someone had already done so and I think he abandoned the attempt, sadly--or maybe my memory is off.

Here is an interpretation, and as you can see, it has a killer front view:

They have a little bit of the fluting design. Often artists are inspired by real aircraft, as here

That NX-01 mesh seems to have a little of that aerodyne secondary hull look going for it.

You see what could be an early NX-01 design here, but it is described as a placeholder:

--As per the post, we may see more art.

Now, those of you lucky enough to have bought the Bandai NX-01 model kit, will remember the little booklet of alternate NX-01 designs.

I'm hoping either Drex or Mr. Eaves will show those pieces of artwork, or perhaps someone here might do some scans seeing that Bandai is out of the Trek business--though I hope that changes.

Thanks!

After seeing it rendered. I'm liking it more overall than the final result we got. (though not too thrilled over the window tretment for the saucers' edge)

A few more passes at refinement by Eaves, and this could have been a great design.

I actually like that design better than the one we got on the show.

but,I think a better NX-01 was actually the "Delta Ship" seen in the opening credits.
that is actually a better PRE-Federation design.
