She also was connecting two big cables and the last thing she said was "Sorry, my love". Sorry for what? Blowing up the Tardis? Constantly blowing it up in a loop for two thousand years keeping the Earth warm?

Well, if they want to go with the simplest, most obvious solution (again), they can reveal there was a Silent in the TARDIS with River, sabotaging it, and she and the Doctor just didn't notice for obvious reasons.

I was thinking the same. Or I thought because the Doctor defeats the Silence in "Day of the Moon" it's possible the Silence try to get revenge on him by blowing up the Tardis. Sort of a meeting in reverse timeline.

If that's the case, they could have programmed River to do that as well. She was the one in the TARDIS when it blew up.

But this was future River. Long after the Silence and she probably had overcome her programming at that stage.
It's still possible that Silents were on the Tardis or that they somehow used their Tardis to mess up the Doctor's.

Could have been a totally different "program".

Failing to prevent the explosion and dooming the entire universe?

Possible, but you never know with SM

I have come to the conclusion that SM doesn't know with SM. He appears to be of the writing style that something is crafted in the moment as sounding cool or interesting, but not having any idea where he's going with it. In the end, things don't connect or make complete sense, and the audience is left with major holes and inconsistencies.

And SM gets called genius for doing it.

I think he's clever at doing it, in the same way RTD was sometimes, I wouldn't go so far as to call him a genius at it. Real genius would be us not seeing the plot holes

^ I don't know about that. Real genius, IMHO, is where an apparent plot hole turns out to not have been one at all. That's not a vibe that I'm getting from the current state of NuWho, sad to say.

^I agree that he's not a genius, but there are so many Moffat Gushers out there that you'd think the guy was Oscar Wilde reincarnated.

Eh...there's also many Moffat Bashers that try to make Uwe Boll or Ed Wood look like Oscar Wilde in comparison.

I'm disappointed with it really. There are so many enjoyable but elements to the current incarnation that I can't understand why its not working for me. It could be as simple as the poacing or choice of camera angles or whatever, but whatever it is, this series is some how less than the sum of its parts.

Butters, you said it brilliantly. I don't get it either. Moffat's episodes in the RTD era were outstanding. Matt Smith is a great actor, but I don't like the Eleventh Doctor. I think Amy is an all-around fail. Alex Kingston is a great actress, but I now loathe River due to over-use. Overall it should be great, but it's not. I think that Moffat will be remembered as the JNT of nuWho.

Sorry if it's been brought up but I can't be bothered trolling through 12 pages of comments but...

Why did the teselecta start to regenerate when it was shot? Surely it's just a robot. I mean, yes, it does mimic it's intended lifeform but would it have truly regenerated into someone else?

Just a visual effect ... They set that up in Let's Kill Hitler with similar effects. It may *look* like a regeneration, but it's akin to Odo shapeshifting on DS9. It's what they DO.

The whole thing was a performance to convince the silence that the Doctor was dead. The regeneration effect was a critical part in maintaining that illusion.

The damn thing can grow a motorcycle out of its ass. Making its skin glow and unleashing energy out of its arms and head shouldn't be that much harder. And besides since the thing can change its appearance, it could have completed the regeneration illusion if it was required to.

And the robot was apparently done up a bit between episodes. Father Gideon was noticeably more natural than any of the disguises in Berlin, and absolutely perfect for the Doctor (though I suspect he sonicked it up quite a bit, since he seemed to be the only person on-board).

Spot on Mr. Butters:techman:

My thoughts exactly.

However, that being said (putting on my LOST hat on now), we didn't get many answers and still don't know who took control of the TARDIS and uttered "Silence will fall." I know some people in this forum will be pissed about this (and a few have sworn to stop watching if this happened, so I'll be interested to see if they keep their word). I'm not overly bugged by this but it is a little frustrating. All in due time. I finally got my answers on LOST, didn't I? ;)

I will only be upset by this if it is never answered. I was hoping for a little more explanation this season, but it seems Moffat is intent on stretching out the Silence arc.

I probably need to watch the episode again (I had to watch "The Big Bang" about 3 times before I fully figured out what was going on).

My biggest issue with this season was that it just seemed really inconsistent. After "A Good Man Goes to War" and "Let's Kill Hitler," we seemed to completely drop the Melody Pond story. Amy and Rory completely stop caring about their baby being stolen. You'd think that would be one of the bigger themes of the back half of the season.

I'd also really prefer it if next season the finale didn't require the fate of the entire universe/time/reality to be at stake. It's getting old.
