this is sopposed to be in main right maybe stephen king will show up.
or do a eyes of the dragon type episode. l liked it some thing to go with dexter and the walking on sunday.

I felt it had a bit of a slow start but it picked up enough that I will continue watching. I can't say I'm crazy about the casting of Snow White though.

I thought it was ok. Glad Charming got it. He was bad.

And I agree with a comment up thread, if they don't know they are fairy tale figures for a long time, that will get frustrating. I don't always like knowing more than the characters. Especially, in this case, if the thrust of the show is making the townspeople believe...

I really enjoyed it. I might even say it was my favorite pilot this season. My top three are all ABC shows, so I guess they are doing a great job this year! Not so much for the other networks...

ABC is really making an effort to break away from the pack, good for them. :) Makes me feel better about the fact that, of all the sf/f shows in development for 2012-13, about half of them are from ABC. :rommie:

By the way - the pilot doesn't mention this, but that goth girl who appears in the final scene (where Rumpelstiltskin collects the rent) is supposed to be a certain hooded fairy tale character too.
I found that out beforehand when I looked up the show on the IMDb, but it was still easy to pick up on.

Yeah, it was immediately obvious to me, and I had no idea that character was showing up.

I remember that part, but I'm wondering whether it's a fairy tale reference (which would be more interesting if it were a clue about the character which would be revealed in the future.)
.
Emma Swan rang bells with me too, but a quick Google only turned up links to the show or real people. Keira Knightley's character in Pirates of the Carribean was Elizabeth Swann, I wonder if that's what I was thinking of.

Well the Ugly Duckling
who is really a Swan
was adopted ....

*Best spoiler code.... Ever!

I thought she was going to be either that character (I wonder if she keeps a pistol in her knickers?) or a certain other one who does a lot of housework. IMDB confirmed.

I can't really find fault with the pilot but I was left a bit....concerned. They pretty gave us EVERYTHING on a silver platter. They spelled out how the entire season would play out. I'm not sure I like that. I really like the premise, but I don't really see how they can maintain an entire season (let alone multiple seasons) out of this. There's no mystery whatsoever; it will just be a matter of waiting for certain things to happen--not WHETHER they will happen but WHEN they will happen. That doesn't seem terribly fun to me.

Sometimes the fun can be in the journey, rather than the destination.
Yes, we all know that Emma's going to come round to believe she is who she is, and gradually convert the rest of the town to believing.
but maybe this story is more about how that happens, rather than whether or not it does.
Given that each actor effectively plays two characters there's an awful lot of scope for backstory and flashback episodes, showing differences and similarities between each Storybrook character and their fairyland counterpart. As well the possibility of retelling some of the fairytales in a new way.

You know, even if they hadn't used the same actress for the evil female Mayor and the Evil Queen giving her the name "Regina" would still be a dead giveaway.

Not impressed. The fantasy scenes were SOO low budget looking, and cliche fantasy. Why go the disney direction when they could have done something more interesting and edgier?

On the plus side, I like most of the actors and characters much more in the modern day setting.

Robert Carlyle is certainly the best thing about it.

I'll watch another episode or so... But I'm SERIOUSLY not interesting in the backstory of how Snow White and Prince Charming met. I don't care for "Lost"-ian flashbacks for fantasy characters.

I want the story to move forward instead - how do the characters go back into fairy land? Do they even want to? I find it interesting that the evil queen is not so happy after all in her "happily ever after", and that is at least an interesting idea they are raising.

I don't think how they met will be explored in future episodes, since that's the whole story of Snow White. (and was coverd in the first act) Unless you mean how they met in the real world.

I think a scene for next week's episode shows how they met. It looked like Prince Charming caught Snow White in a net? Seemed odd.

I agree. This was the impression I was left with. I guess because it's on ABC, which is owned by Disney or was at one point, and it airs at 8pm, I think the stories are going to be a bit mild.

I'm not sure how living in the modern world, especially Maine of all places, is supposed so terrible compared to fairy tale land. Are there hidden "hoods" in Maine full of gangs and homeless people? I was confused about that whole point.

Cinderella certainly has to appear at some point (I think the fairy dressed in blue and played by Keegan Connor Tracy is probably from that story). Sleeping Beauty as well. And who knows, maybe Beauty and the Beast and Tinker Bell too (and if they cast Ron Perlman as the Beast ABC will officially become Coolest Network Ever).

According to wikipedia's list of recurring characters Cinderella is going to be played by Jesse Schram from Veronica Mars and Falling Skies, and that same list has Keegan Connor Tracy's character listed as The Blue Fairy. I'm assuming that's the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, but I could be mistaken.

It was decent enough, I guess. Pretty well acted and directed, but the premise could get very tiresome very quickly. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to Grimm.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. That's how you make a family show that can appeal to anyone, take note Terra Nova...

Fairy tale land is such a wonderful, magical place that even a normal, nice existence in our realm would be considered hellish punishment by their standards.

How am I supposed to feel any sympathy, then, for them? Or think the Evil Queen is all that evil? So, she's an overbearing mother. Doesn't scream evil, just therapy which is what her kid is in from what I could gather in the pilot.
