My favorite part: "So, this is basically Iron Man 3, right?" :guffaw:

I didnt get that. Yeah im sure Tony is going to get good lines (if not ALL of them) but the villian is going to make this alot more like Thor 2, only with even more SHIELD involvement, whilst im guessing we will see Steve Rogers adjust to the modern world, even if nothing else from Captain America is in the movie.

So IMO (and for some of you, that isnt worth alot) its going to be more like Iron Man 3 & Thor 2.

Of course they surprise us and side line the expected leads, and just make it into Hawkeye 1.

I mean why not frame it from the POV of Hawkeye? im pretty sure thats what the audience is expecting anyways, wink wink :p

Of course, the studio demanded so many re-writes of the final act that it could hardly even be called Whedon's story anymore. And given the director couldn't read English and was working from a script translated into French, it's easy to see how certain nuances of Whedon dialogue could get lost in the translation.

For the record-- Whedon has publically apologized for both Alien: Resurrection and The Iron Giant.

Snappy one-liners from Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk go a long way.

That's all well and good, but it doesn't apply to the case of Whedon being personally responsible for the worst line of dialogue in the entire X-Men series:

"You know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else."

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

^But he is also responsible for the best line--

Cyclops: "How do I know you're really you?"
Wolverine: "You're a dick."

;)

I blame Halle Berry for that line more than anything else. It needed better delivery. Berry just delivered that line totally wrong.

^Agreed. Not to discount her obvious acting ability, but she was a horrible Storm.

Yeah, the line's not all that great, but it probably wouldn't have been as bad if Berry had delivered it in a more sarcastic, Whedon-like manner.

No actor could have delivered that well.

The line was atrocious on the page AND the stage.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Yeah. It is wordy, clunky, awkward, and not really all that funny.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

it would've been better with the obvious punchline 'it croaks'

Why would anyone want to apologize for The Iron Giant? Especially someone who didn't even work on it? ;)
You're probably thinking of Titan A.E.

btw: I don't think the "toad" line is that bad at all. Halle Berry's delivery is what killed it imho.

Agreed. She builds it up and makes it epic and ominous. Whereas it was supposed to be conversational and matter-of-fact for the first part. Then, after he gets hit with the lightning, the delivery should have been - shrug of the shoulders, throwaway tone-of-voice - same thing that happens to everyone else.

Not a classic line, but delivered right, it would have been just forgettable, not the much-discussed line of notoriety that Halle made it.

Wait, acting ability?
Well, she does have an Oscar.

Yet she wasn't acting in that scene with Billy Bob Thornton. ;)

Fits more into the category of "You can type this shit, but you sure can't say it."
