Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Agreed. She builds it up and makes it epic and ominous. Whereas it was supposed to be conversational and matter-of-fact for the first part. Then, after he gets hit with the lightning, the delivery should have been - shrug of the shoulders, throwaway tone-of-voice - same thing that happens to everyone else.

Even acted like that, it's groan worthy.

It's funny how people say how the line was SUPPOSED to be said. If EVERYBODY else was told this, why wasn't the actor delivering the line told this? And the director making sure it was said correctly while filming it? Or is this simply an after-the-fact excuse?

Hope there aren't any of these excuses for The Avengers. The trailer looks fun, so, so far, so good.

Well Joss was no longer involved with X-Men by that point. And I'm sure Singer wasn't bothered by how the line was "supposed" to be said, since it was one of two lines that survived from Joss' script.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

I'm guessing the reason why people are bringing it up is because it is one of a few acknowledged lines from Joss still in the screenplay. I have to agree with some of the others that Barry's delivery was off on that line...and she really wasn't the right person to cast as Storm.

It's not like Joss can do no wrong. I don't believe anyone is saying that, nor am I saying that. I merely said I was geeking out because he is writing and directing this film. Because when Joss is on, oh baby he is ON :)

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Yeah. He's usually on when he's really excited about his project and who wouldn't be excited directing the world's mightiest heroes? :)

I don't remember being bothered by the frog line in X-Men. Thought it was funny and cute.

In my mind I could always picture a 5/6th season full witched out Willow delivering that "toad" line with more credibility.

I think Joss writes some lines with a particular delivery style in mind and Halle Berry didnt' know how to deliver it like Joss wrote it.

Re: AVENGERS - movie Discussion, News, Interviews, Pics till release 2

Then again, I'm not sure that delivery style is very Storm-esque. Minor point overall. I forgot the line existed.

I don't see a Joss Whedon anywhere in the writing credits for X-Men?

That's because there was virtually nothing left of his script in the final product, so he wouldn't have been awarded a writing credit.

^ Yep. He wasn't given any credit. He ended up just being one of several previous draft writers when it was all said and done.

I suppose that it depends on how the viewer perceives the delivery. Personally I found the moment to be overwrought and melodramatic, which was seemingly not the intended tone. Whedon seemed to think that Berry ruined it, but to be frank that Harrison Ford quote mentioned by JarodRussell does come to mind. If Whedon wanted a particular tone from the dialogue, he should probably have indicated that in the script. Brackets are the scriptwriter's friend. That's not to say that he didn't, of course. Maybe it's just that Berry was as spectacularly bad in that scene as she was throughout X3. :)

Two lines, however contentious, don't usually warrant a credit. :)
Would love to attribute Wolvie's one-clawed salute at airport check-in to Whedon, but I don't think that it was his.

Storm was acted better on the page than in the movies.

My post wasn't meant to imply that he should get any credit only to cite that he was one writer of many previous writers who worked on the film that didn't get any credit. That's all.

I wouldn't know about that.

Well, I only have knowledge based on the 90s cartoon growing up, but she always seemed to be overly grandiose in everything she did.
Man, I hated the animated Strorm's voice. Never imagined Storm sounding like that.
