Was "Body & Soul" A Gay Episode?

In this ep we have the Doc(male) in Seven's(female) body...while in Seven's body a man(Ranek) is attracted to her so the Doc plays along and exploits this...then we have the Doc while being in Seven's body being attracted to a female(Jaryn)...during all this Seven knows what is happening while the Doc is controlling her body.

Then there is stuff with Tuvok, Tom & pon farr...but I am pretty sure nothing gay happened there.

By the by this is one of my favorite Seven Of Nine/Doc eps. :bolian:

The Doctor inside Sevens body

Well, both the Doctor and Seven are heterosexual in their own bodies/forms. It falls more under transgender than gay or lesbian -- sort of like a scene in a show/movie where a guy has to cross-dress and is aroused by a woman but has to hide the arousal. It's just that Star Trek's Sci-Fi element had the Doctor literally wearing her body instead of just dressing en femme...But at the same time this is more cross-dressing than transgenderism, and neither are explicity linked with sexual orientation anyway.

You'll notice that paragraph's inconclusive. I don't really know how to classify it. "Camp", maybe?

Ranek seemed to be attracted to the Doc's personality and was uneasy with the fact that it was the Doc in Seven's body...

But I guess you are right Newspaper Taxi.

It was homophobic.

He was ignorant to the mating dance until that pass.

Then BOOM!

The Doctor was disgusted that that bloke wanted him, but he didn't seem to think that advancing on his sister with an inappropriate gender was at all different.

That surely depends on your definition of Voyager?

If you think that Voyager is AWESOME!!! ...Then to say that Voyager was gay, is to say that it is AWESOME!!! to be gay.

Meh?

Yes, but for a lot of people in this day and age, saying that a show is 'gay' doesn't have a 'light hearted' meaning to it... it's usually meant in a negative way (despite the other definition of the word), describing it was 'bad' in some kind of a context.

It may not be at the same time, but taking into account 'gay' is associated with homosexuality for the most part, and a lot of people aren't friendly towards homosexuals, then it implies a negative connotation.

How many of the 'common folk' are aware that 'gay' can also mean 'happy'?

I do think the Doc's aversion to Rannik's advances was actually slightly homophobic.
If anything, the Doctor being a computer program could have at the very least experimented with homosexuality to see what it would be like.

But the writers being what they are, it's unlikely they would do anything to show this directly.
They took the easy way out in this instance.

But given that this was well after Dax and the Khan having their pash on DS9, they should have been on board unless male and female homosexuality are not evenly weighted by the bigots and conservatives in the 90s.

Oh, I like Voyager because it isn't AWESOME!!!

I'm also a surly sarcastic son of a bitch.

The same thing happened practically with Xena and Gabrielle when Gabrielle was in Bruce Campbells body and the flickered between body and soul depending on whether the standards and practices where watching but Lucy and Rene made out for about 7 minutes.

Outcast was long enough ago (season 3 or 4 TNG?)made by people old enough that it's forgiveable, and you can almost say "Awwwwwwe it's sweet. Look, they're trying."

Oh? 5th season?

Sorry. That means that Berman was in charge, and all the old people who had made shit like Gunsmoke and Planet of the Giants had left the building.

Never mind.

Outcast was written by Jeri Taylor.

Hmmm?

Hey remember that seven of nine spent years of her life shackled to a dominant will and forced to do things beyond her control? Well we've already dealt with the horror of that, so now let's make it a comedy...

Only new born babies don't know both sides of this argument.

"It's not offensive if it's in context"

"I unilaterally refuse to accept the presence of that word used in the English language under those definitions."

"But context!"

"Fuck context, it's a hate crime."

"but I'm not saying what you think I am saying!"

"No, you're also saying what I think you're saying, there's no point in saying what you said if it couldn't be contrasted in and out of context to highlight the schism between definitions."

"But I'm making fun of hateful people, not being hateful to you."

"You're reminding me that hateful people exist, and that they haven't all been rounded up and drowned in the ocean. You are perpetuating hate that hateful people themselves are too scared to perpetuate openly, adding life to hateful thoughts that should just die from atrophy."

...

Does anyone find it odd that the Doctors program as more dominant than Sevens? but then that just supports my theory that what ever personality remained with the meat was murdered when the digital imprint of the Borg returned from the collective and reinvested itself with Anika's meat.

A lot of VOY was pretty gay.

Are you aware that comment is offensive and homophobic, not to mention inane and trollish.
Oh please.
Only to those who are thin skinned enough to be offended.

No, it was homophobic and offensive as it was used in a negative context designed to belittle the subject. The sort of callous ignorance you casually displayed was probably exactly what African Americans had to endure decades ago, but because people objected to those slurs and put-downs it was gradually deemed unacceptable, which was I commented. I personally found that comment offensive as whenever the juvenile phrase is used it is usually always used to demean people or things, so please don't feel the need to roll your eyes at me for objecting to your homophobia.

As for being thin skinned, not everyone can ignore derogatory comments with a turn of a cheek, certainly not that gay teen who suicided over similar homophobic put-downs last week.

Whatever Josie. I'm sure you're a lot of fun in real life, but I don't need to be lectured by you. Enjoy your indignant outrage.
