2011 NFL Season - A New Game

I really didn't watch Brandon Lloyd at all last season. But just based on the numbers, a 5/6 sounds ridiculously cheap. I mean, he was good right? He's a good player? The numbers weren't a total fluke? I mean he was on the receiving end of the Kyle Orton Choo Choo Train so it's not like his numbers can be considered inflated...

Why didn't the Bears trade a 4 to get him back. Sooner or later they're gonna need an actual receiver

So Hooded One, how do you feel about the Pats game yesterday?
Well, you know, there were some things we thought we did well and some things we feel we still need to work on. They've got a good team over there, we were just able to execute the plays we needed to--

Oh, sorry, wrong Hooded One.

I thought they did okay, for the most part. They did a better job against Rob Ryan's defense than they did against a similar scheme he used with the Browns last season, but the offense still didn't produce like we're used to seeing them produce. I actually think they won this game because of the defense, shockingly. The defense wasn't great, but it held up pretty well against a fairly decent Cowboys offense. So overall I'm happy with their performance. In the end, they got the win, which is all that really matters.

What are your thoughts?

Well, we uh played a football game today, or something, and they made some plays, and we did too, we obviously need a lot of work, but we're just preparing for our bye week, they're a good team, and bye week does certain things defensively that you need to...

OK: I hate the fact they needed a 2 minute drill comeback to win, but I'm glad they have it in them. They have really struggled against the kitchen sink defense the last couple of years, whenever Brady gets really hurried. I like the more balanced run game, I like the defense stiffening up on 3rd down once or twice. I love 5-1.

Next month of the schedule is gonna be rough. The Giants, at the Jets, at Pittsburgh, at Philly, home for KC (I'm going), and at a decent Washington team. Interested to see how it goes.

Raiders gave up a 2012 first round pick and a 2013 second round pick for Carson Palmer. The 2013 pick could become a first rounder if the Raiders win a playoff game with Palmer. I won't lie.... I think the Raiders were just taken hard by the Bengals. Palmer's a good QB, but I don't think he's worth the price they paid and there's options out there that would have cost them a lot less. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the fact that the Raiders are basically out of next year's draft now and that they may not have a first round pick for a few years, but it seems like a puzzling move.

You know what you are getting with Palmer. Good QB, never the same since he got hurt.

Draft picks are a total crapshoot. Good move for a team with a chance to win a horrible division.

Too expensive. It's hard to build a long term winner by trading high draft picks away in the NFL. What's the hurry in Oakland? Al's dead. Draft and develop. You're not winning the Super Bowl this year guys...

The Raiders' 2012 draft was already shot to hell anyway. A 31-year-old Palmer who hasn't taken a snap since last season is still automatically the best QB the Raiders have had since Rich Gannon. I like the gutsy move.

But the Bengals could be scary in a couple years if those two draft picks both pan out. They're already much better this season than I expected them to be. If they use those picks well...yikes.

^Yeah, I blame the refs for everything too. I'm sure they're the ones that ran over your sister, fucked your dog, and drank all your good scotch. They're probably behind the recession and glaciers melting as well.

Well, there was a blatant pass interference on Revis's 100 yard pick 6 that they totally ignored. So I guess 'refs not fucking up' just means calls that help your team.

They were playing one of the Suck for Luck favorites at home, that's a really hard game to lose. Sanchez and the passing offense isn't good enough for today's NFL. Their running game isn't good anymore either. Even though the defense is good, against decent NFL teams they're not going to score enough to win consistently.

San Diego, @Buffalo, and New England up next. Jets probably need to win two of those to stay relevant, and I don't think they will. If they drop that home game to San Diego you may as well start thinking up fresh excuses for 2012

I think I can safely predict one win for you in that stretch of games. :( (I'll give you a hint, you'll see it in person.)

The Pats should consider themselves lucky that the Cowboys coach went into the "prevent offense" mode instead of really trying to put them away. I suppose I understand why he was gunshy of Romo, but that's what cost them the game.

I think the Patriots will beat the Giants, the Jets (nothing they've done this season has convinced me that they're playoff-bound), and the Chiefs. The Pittsburgh and Philly games are toss-ups, but the Steelers' defense doesn't seem to be as great as it used to be.

Yes, spoken like a true hater, but keep in mind that the second round pick only becomes a first rounder if the Raiders make some noise in the playoffs. If that happens, to hell with the 2 first rounders - we have a young team, a veteran young-ish QB, and are seriously trending up. If it doesn't work out with Carson, the Raiders retain their first round pick in 2013.

It is a bold Raiders-like move with pretty high upside. Worst case is that we go back to Campbell next season. But I have a feeling that won't be necessary.

While I won't deny that I am no fan of the Raiders, I assure you that my comments have less to do with me being a "hater" and more to do with wondering who the hell would seriously pay a 1st/ 2nd or 1st/ 1st round picks for Carson Palmer? Like I said above, he's not a bad QB, but he's not worth that much either. I certainly won't argue that it's a bold move, but I don't think it's worth it either.

But, if you guys think that selling the farm for this one last piece will get you where you want to go, I wish you the best of luck with that. And I sincerely hope that strategy works out for you guys like it normally worked for the Redskins and like it's worked this year for the Eagles and Falcons. ;)
